    • Toni Braxton’s Looks Steal The Show On “So Yesterday” Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 20, 09

Toni Braxton’s latest single “So Yesterday” finally has a video clip for it. I feel like I’ve heard NOTHING about this single anywhere. Trey Songz’ current 60-watt star power wattage doesn’t bring anything to this song OR video clip in my opinion, and really, his presence is an unnecessary addition to appeal to ___________.

What really took center stage is not Toni’s singing or this mediocre song — in this clip, it’s all about the wigs. Short ones, black ones, long ones, red ones. And Toni frolicking in her panty draws. And in a catsuit thingy. And…

What is this song about? Are those Lakers? Brooke Hogan is the love interest!? I can’t even feign interest really. I really wish she would have chosen something with more of a hit potential instead of this syrupy mid-tempo ballad with Trey Songz who really brings nothing vocally to the table. They almost sound the same…he just has more vibrato that sticks out terribly on this song.

I want Toni to make it, I promise I do. But….does she want to?

I had no idea this was a duet until the video dropped. Toni and Trey have the exact same voice with that being one of a young fawn.

      2. November 20, 2009 Rebecca

I like this song. I think Toni is trying to gain wider appeal and sort of re-introduce herself as an artist. “So Yesterday” could easily have been done by Jordin Sparks or somebody but I’m convinced the rest of the album will pack more punch. This song is easing her back into music.

        P. S. Toni’s body is RIDICULOUS. I’m about to do 100 crunches as soon as I finish typing.

      3. November 20, 2009 twizzle

I briefly lost touch with reality while viewing this. My mind had difficulty making any kind of sense out of this mess.

Toni needs to stop f**kin’ with that nose of hers, but I digress.

This will be quickly relegated to “buzz single” status, because I see it going absolutely nowhere as a single. Trey isn’t exactly “doin’ it real big” right now, so, besides the fact that their voices are similar, he was a bad choice. Someone more age appropriate with pipes would have made more sense. Eric Benet perhaps? I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but the song itself is just boring.

I’m gonna throw on “Take This Ring,” and pretend I never heard this.

        And Brooke Hogan? Really?

      4. November 20, 2009 The IPS

@Twizzle! Take This Ring! Yes, I loved that song LOL! I thought it was just me. I actually loved that whole album though, randomly.

      5. November 20, 2009 Matt

what’s odd, she sings, and plays a role in the story, Trey sings, but doesn’t play a role.

He’s in there because this release is via Atlantic, and he needs help. Sadly, I think he makes the song messier, and that doesn’t help when the song could use a complete overhaul with a better producer. It’s a decent song, structure-wise, and really helps to showcase her vocal talent, but whomever decided to take the structure and put that boring music on it, and make it sound like that as the finished product…they should be shot!

      6. November 20, 2009 kelis

Did they add him onto this song later? Because when I downloaded it about a month ago I don’t remember hearing him on it. And he doesn’t sound great. As for the video, I promise I saw looks/scenes from at least 4 of her past videos. She looks pretty, but the concept could have been developed a lot more, or developed period. But I love Toni and I’m rooting for her to do well this time.

Yes “Take This Ring” is my jam! Libra was a pretty good cd.

“what’s odd, she sings, and plays a role in the story, Trey sings, but doesn’t play a role.”

That’s the problem I had. He’s my man (he just doesn’t know it yet…) so I didn’t want to see them on each other, but after that divorce-causing kiss, you’d think they’d at least see each other in the video.

      9. November 21, 2009 Rochelle

This video is just random. From the wigs to the cameos to her being randomly in her underwear. Her body is amazing and Trey is nice to look at. That’s it the song is boring and does nada for me

      10. November 22, 2009 Meka

i like trey songz…other than that dumbass “LOL :-)” song he’s pretty good.

toni’s weave looks a hot mess in this video. that is all.
