    • Robin Thicke Makes House Calls In His New “Sex Therapy” Video

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 17, 09

Ding ding ding! We have a winner FINALLY.

I need Trey Songz to take notes artistically, and for The-Dream to take notes vocally. Put a pin in those thoughts, we’ll come back to them.

Robin Thicke’s Polow Da Don produced “Sex Therapy” single really is the hotness. It all just works. Robin’s use of falsetto lately has been on point, but he mixes it w/ his lower registers and it just gives the song this underlying sexy vibe that makes you really want to find someone to do things with. You can tell he wrote this track from the top to bottom, making sure it all came together just right. No hate here.

It sounds strangely odd to me — I can’t put my finger on it why. I know Musiq does that a lot though, the mixing of the falsetto/lower registers…maybe that’s why. That’s what The-Dream TRIES to do and fails miserably. Robin is giving an R&B master class right now. The son of Alan Thicke. Who woulda thought.

But the video is a master class because it’s JUST sexy enough to where there is something left for your imagination (Trey Songz….). But the best part? When he was singing from beneath/between the chick’s legs. Come on…that was hot! Kudos to the director for that shot! It made the whole video. I can’t find who directed it though…

I’m loving this joint and while the other songs that have leaked haven’t rocked my world, this one has set the bar a little bit higher for truly soulful yet current sounding R&B about to be released. Usher needs to take that “Papers” mess somewhere ELSE. Robin DID this!

The treatment, the fashions/designs, everything just is perfect and works. Finally. Simple but effective and well executed wins every time.

Gold star for Jason Seaver Jr.!!!!!

The hook is reminding me of Maxwell’s version of “This Woman’s Work.” That’s a GOOD thing.

I am LOVING the drums and strings on this joint. Robin might get my money this time around!

He gets extra credit for not trying to make some weird, unrelated statement in the video. You never know when an artist with a few extra dollars in their pocket might randomly “spring into flight” in a video these days . . .

      12. November 18, 2009 Chris-style

If no one else is gonna say it, I will: That woman has legs for DAYS!!!! Dang! Can IIIII have some of those?! I really liked this song! And I agree, I definitely felt like if I closed I eyes, I woulda though it was Maxwell singing. Nice! *thumbs up* Robin!

      13. November 18, 2009 tress

Honey. HUSH!!!! You just know Alan Thicke is somewhere like, “I never should have let him buy that Hammer album.”

This is beyond hot. That man wears a suit like nobody’s business and the girl was a perfect pairing. Jesus, her legs are as long as I am tall. And then at the end he walks off like a man who just punched a clock after a week of overtime.

        Yessir! It’s a keeper.
