I LOVE this video ya’ll! Why? Cause it’s simple, classy and the focus is all on Whitney Houston. This is her testimony service LOL. She looks great and she is the single solitary focus during this whole affair. I’m sure the simultaneously shot “Million Dollar Bill” will be more of the usual R&B video fare, but for a moment, Whitney has stood up and claimed her legendary spot with this one right here.
Please believe me when I say, it’s not that I’m not a fan and/or not rooting for her. I LOVE Whitney. Even though we know she doesn’t have it, her new image is all about marketing the illusion that she does. This video does an excellent job of that. Technophiles like me will notice all the inconsistencies in the vocals and whatnot, but I guess at the end of the day it’s about what we choose to believe.
Stans believe Whitney can do no wrong. I believe she is an awesome comeback story. But like Michelle told Effie in Dreamgirls, “she’s just a diva that can’t sustain.”
R. Kelly wrote THE HELL out of this song though. What I love moreso is the song. If Yolanda Adams or someone similar was singing this joint…phew! Whitney’s post-revival vocals are very decent though. It doesn’t make the misstep of “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” in that it builds musically while vocally Whitney can’t.
R. Kelly truly delved deep into her psyche and really, he didn’t have to dig too far — I’m sure this song can apply to his life as well. But that’s the hallmark of a good song…it applies to many people on many different levels. Bravo to Whitney for emotionally delivering while the studio magic did the rest and to R. Kelly for writing another hit.

Just as simplistic as Jennifer Hudson’s If This Isn’t Love, which is also a gorgeous music video that captures the song perfectly. It goes to show that you don’t need loads of dancers, mind-blowing routines, flashing lights, skimpy clothes and whatever else ‘artists’ do nowadays.
The Queen is back.

I have to agree with virtually everything you said. This song, this album, is built around sustaining an illusion. It does it exceptionally well. It’s something that many people probably don’t notice, but I feel it’s glaringly obvious.
If this was a Whitney song from a decade ago, you better bet there would be some major amazingly climax to it, however, like you mentioned, the climax in this song comes from the music, not from Whitney. Perhaps that’s why I feel this song is a bit lackluster.
This video is a bit lackluster too. I think they could have told a story, maybe used it to milk her comeback a bit more by telling her story, and making Bobbi Christina the person she looks to. I dunno, just something more than her playing with her dress in front of Mariah’s wind machine, or sitting on what looks to be a cinder block, all the while using Barbara Striesand’s camera filters for the instant photoshop look.

I loved Whitney back in the day and I love her now. This video brought tears to my eyes. Of course in the meaning cause I look to God every day of my life but just focusing on her beauty, her voice and the fact that she’s being brave and stepping back out there for all the critics to take shots at. NO ONE can deny that her voice is angelic. Like my MAXWELL 2 angels with an incredible gift to share with us. Let’s not beat it up, chew it and spit it out….let’s just enjoy!! Welcome back Whitney! Glad to have you!!!
