    • Music Video: Trey Songz – “I Invented Sex”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 4, 09

I’m gonna say this MAY be not safe for work.

I mean, it really is a bit much. LOL, like, we don’t leave anything to the imagination anymore? I know that I’m not the target market for this video, so that aside, it’s pretty explicit for a music video. I mean, Trey Songz’s fanbase is definitely young girls. They gonna show this on 106 & Park? I don’t think that’s okay.

I really would like them to take the initiative and make an alternate version of this video because there are too many young ones around who are gonna be trying to jam this and watch this video and I don’t like that idea.

Not saying Trey Songz is going to be the demise of puritanical America, but seriously LOL. Too much is too much.

All this video is missing is “o” face. For real! What do ya’ll think? I’m a bit of a prude, I will readily admit that LOL, so weigh in.

i think people don’t know the difference between sleazy and sexy anymore. I’m saying this as someone who’s probably in the target age group of Trey Songz, this man needs to fall back.

He looks like he’s trying too hard. I wanna send him a copy of Maxwell’s Bad Habits to show him how grown men do their thing.

      2. November 4, 2009 peachfay07

I TOTALLY agree with you, but what did you EXPECT from a song called I INVENTED Sex???! haha That video definitely had me praying to SweetMintyJesus…LOL!

First of all, let me take it to church for a second. GOD invented sex, let’s get that straight.

I for one am getting tired of people seeing how far they can take S#it. (Blessings and cursing out the same mouf, I know) It’s tiring. There is a such thing as balance. I’m not saying don’t talk about it, but I’m tired of looking at it.

        O.
        M.
        G. @ that video.

The song is so boring and middle of the road though that he almost HAD to make a video like this in order to garner any type of excitement about this sorry-ass song….

      6. November 4, 2009 Anonymous

Y’ALL NEED TO LET TREY SONGZ BE GREAT!!! LMAO!

      7. November 4, 2009 Meka

Whoaaaaaaa! Too much. This reminds me of that controversial Usher video from his last album (when he was still married lol).

      8. November 4, 2009 Rebecca

        Ummmm…..

Okay, I was aroused but the again I haven’t had an “erotic encounter” since 2008. So I might be the wrong person to critique this video.

      10. November 4, 2009 shercole

      11. November 4, 2009 SororSalsa

Ummmm. I feel like I need a shower. That was just….ew.

      12. November 5, 2009 yours truly

Same thing i said. Not to say I didn’t enjoy it (don’t judge me! lol). But the video really went out there too much and I like Trey. What bugs me more is that it’s the version that’s actually being ALLOWED on TV. whether his target audience is sexually active or not, that was some poor decision making there.

      13. November 5, 2009 BeSqrd

The video wasn’t that bad, I think it lessens the true intimacy of sex. I wish the parents of the kids who were watching this video begin to have some real talks… (its not going to happen, but it should) about sex and intimacy.

      14. November 5, 2009 Cocoa

This video is targeted to the ladies probably in the category of 24-34, and all the old azz Cougars! Really now, I am going to agree, with a title like that “I Invented Sex”, what do you expect? Is it “Racy” yes, is it “poor taste”… that depends on who you are asking. This boy is what 25 at best, in his mind that is all he probably thinks about…hell with a body like that….”Help me Sweet Minty…” I see it no worse than anyone reading the Zane books, or even that last Eric Jerome Dickey Book “Pleasure” (if you haven’t read it, do). Lets not leave it up to artist to police your kids, parents need to monitor what their kids are doing, watching and seeing, let’s take it back old school when parents KNEW where the hell their kids were and what they were doing!… Just my 2 cents…

      15. November 5, 2009 Dr. Heather

I agree with a few of the posters up top…Trey is trying too hard with this video…this Trey Songz cd is trying to be like R. Kelly’s 12 Play from back in the early 90s…

There’s something more sensual and erotic about NOT seeing everything…the true art is leaving some things to the imagination and allowing your freaky-ass mind to do the fantasizing, rather than it all be out there to see…there’s no intimacy in that…thus, his video is an epic FAIL!

      16. November 5, 2009 DJ Fusion/FuseBox Radio

Trey Songz is going the bootleg R. Kelly route.:-/

Blantant sex & not sensuality with sexuality is what’s being sold now to everyone – that’s what’s more bugged out to me than any 1 video.

I didn’t expect caressing in sepia tone as a Merchant Ivory production with a song called “I Invented Sex” but the fact that is is the regular version that’s gonna be everywhere (for a kinda bland song by the way) works my nerves a tad.

As much as folks can say it’s supposed to hit an older head demographic, the kids are gonna be checking this on 106 & Park & requesting it on the airwaves all day and that’s Trey’s main audience at the present. Just another case of mainstream music industry not giving a damn.

      17. November 5, 2009 The IPS

I agree with ALL of ya’ll. I mean, I was expecting something risque but not so blatant I guess.

      18. November 5, 2009 Vaughn

I like the song. I won’t care about it three weeks from now, but I enjoy listening and dancing to it nonetheless.

The video… Trey Songz does nothing for me. To reiterate from above, he’s trying way too had. There’s nothing about the video that says to me that he knows how to put it down like the way he claims. I feel like I’ve been visually assaulted by his overuse of tongue. The guy that overkisses or the guy who has no qualms about using his mouth, but spends a half-hour doing the same thing over and over and in the same place. I’m looking at my watch instead of being turned on.

Sorry if that was too much information. lol.

      19. November 5, 2009 HEALTHY BLACK QUEENS

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I guessed people hyped it up and it live up to my expectations.

      20. November 15, 2009 effupayme

As a recovering Treyaholic, I must say that i felt violated just watching the video. Iexpected sex of course-hence the title of the song- but it was all too much. Trey is a bit much nowadays-the reason why I am recovering- and his R. Kelly steez is disturbing and unecessary. His first album went hard and that’s where he needs to go back to. Take his mind out of the gutter and back into some real r&b. Usher we need you!!!!!!
