    • Music Video: Drake – “Best I Ever Had”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 2, 09

LOL, this video is so Chris Brown-ish to me…I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the school and the whole motif but I was halfway expecting someone to jump on screen and start krumping.

So Drake finally has a video out for his hit song “Best I Ever Had”. I can’t say that I am a HUGE fan of this song, but a lot of people are. Drake’s nice with the wordplay but I think his buzz is to big for his britches.

That being said…this video is…something else. It’s not as bad as I was hearing it was, but it’s definitely full of some “WTF!?”

Full of plenty of double entendre and sexual overtones (tittays for DAYS!), Drake does what rappers do best — take the attention off of themselves in case of serious wackness. You are accosted from the outset by the appearance of chesticles bouncing, and I’m sorry, he could be rapping the secret of turning lead into gold and that’s all I was looking at for the whole video.

Overall, I just think dude’s presence is kind of boring and him standing there “looking at his clipboard” by himself in the hallway summed up the whole video for me. Plenty of cameos and whatnot if you get tired of looking at His Sleepyness or the big mascot with the furry tongue (wamp!).

And Kanye had a hand in this? He ought to be ashamed. I just posted Mr. Hudson’s video and it was WAY more interesting…

all i could think about while watching this video: “Milk’s Gone Bad!!”

      2. July 2, 2009 twizzle

I thought it was a nice departure from the status quo . . . nothing “hard” or “gangsta” which was kinda refreshing . . .

I swear dude is half Neanderthal, though. The sheer width of his cranium is amazing!

Is it bad that the stairwell scene was my favorite part? I think he’s a hottie and I even like his little hand gestures.

        Take the D!

        @ Twizzle

My sentiments exactly. He looks like one of those cavemen on the Geico commercials.

Maybe I’m too pregnant and my hormones are outta wack..but what the hell was the purpose of this video? and what’s the meaning behind the looks of the chicks on the other team?…This is what I’m supposed to “Thank Him Later” for? Mufugga please..

      7. July 2, 2009 miss_simplicity

Am I the only person who dont like this dude and dont see whats so hot about him….Its probably a million of rapper/singers on myspace who can eat him alive…Kayne already did that style of rapping/singing….I guess nobody wasnt really paying any attention to 808s & heartbreak…also this video doesnt surprise me because Kanye stated many times he loves big tits….

      8. July 2, 2009 romanticlezbn

man i could been on facebook….What the fuck… I swear his head has really really really blown up. He isn’t that great to make videos that don’t make snese this early in his game.

      9. July 2, 2009 romanticlezbn

oh and ladybug i agree with you…. he really isn’t all that damn great.

      10. July 2, 2009 joeydeclectic

ummmmmm…. maybe i’m slow but i didnt get it. i think it tried too hard to be “different”

      11. July 2, 2009 john Anderson

This video is alright…..likeothers said didnt see the point of it. I think he could have done a simpler & more dirrect approach that pertains to the song.

I want, want, WANT to support black canadian talent. As a black canuck myself, it’s good to see some of them rising. But really now, I am not having it with the constant US delay of Melanie Fiona’s album, Drake’s mediocre TV performance and video, and Kardi becoming one hit wonder. It’s the Tamia/Deborah Cox syndrome of having couple of hit singles and then fading off afterwards. Damnit, I want someone to be the black Celine Dion/Bryan Adams already. LOL. No, Drake, what your doing is not enough!

      13. July 2, 2009 whateva

        Nope.

      14. July 2, 2009 SteevieFantastic

His eyes look so weird though! Like a St Bernard dog that’s just had a stroke. I can’t.

      15. July 3, 2009 Mr. Blacksexxx

Okay I kept watching the video but as much as I like the TittyBalls, a part of me was shamed at the fact that all the lightskinned chicks were beautiful and all the chicks on the other side were dark and disheveled.

Was Kayne trying to go for Wannabes and Jiggaboos ‘09?

      16. July 4, 2009 Kay'Cee

        - This was absolutely horrible and I’m not understanding why the paid Fabulous and Trey SOngz to sit and the crown and be looked at. He believes he clarified this video with the statement he made, but no matter how much explaining you do. iht makes NO SENSE!! I like Drake and was expecting a lot more, what he needs to do is demolish this video and make another one that is not explicit enough not to make it to television.

      17. July 4, 2009 Kay'Cee

        - i meant in the crowd

      18. July 6, 2009 Coco Bea

I like Drake as an artist but this song to me is so mediocre and the video is even worse! Okay the speech about “Taking the D” was kinda funny but the rest of video gets a “blank stare”. He should go back and shoot another video pronto and keep Kanye’s ass far away from the director chair.

      19. July 7, 2009 yEa_ii_sEd_iiT

this video…wow i KNEW he wud show me just why i don’t like him or his “music” uggh “take that D”? really Drake?really? uggh

      20. August 30, 2009 Felicia

I love his video’s i think he a wonderful rapper/singer and he is so sexy i wish i could marry him
