You know, it’s been a minute since I’ve even heard or thought about Chamillionaire. I know he was having label or label politics issues, and had decided to stop doing mixtapes or something, but I gotta say, I’ve been hearing this song EVERYWHERE. I sat and listened one day and I realized that it was him.
I’ve been a fan of Chamillionaire’s, inexplicably, but I especially liked his song on Ciara’s “Get Up”. That’s the last I heard of him. So imagine my surprise when this little ditty dropped — this is like, a weird song yet not really for him. He’s always slightly different, yet still accessible and not without his menacing sounding sneer, in my opinion.
Aside from the fact that homeboy is still using the word “hater” in a song in 2009, I can get with this song and video. It reminds me of The Roots’ video for “What They Do”, with the captions and whatnot, but I still feel like it’s not crazy enough that it doesn’t fit with the song. Not art but not anything too terrible.
I’m interested in seeing what Chamillionaire has to offer on his new album Venom, which is set to drop next year in February. Question is, are you?

I just can’t.
I’m familiar with the song that this is based on, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Free Falling,” and, I . . . just . . . can’t.
Some songs were just never meant to be “flipped” into raps songs, and this is one of them.
I’m sure this song is gonna be huge, though. I wish him success—Cham is a talented dude. But I just can’t go on this journey with him . . .

WHAT?!?!? Maybe it’s because I’m in TX and we hear everything he puts out, but he’s released much material since then…lol
I haven’t been feeling this particular song by him because I feel like he phoned that ish in. Have you heard “I’m So Gone”?

@Twizzle FREE FALLING! You know what, you are RIGHT. OK I didn’t even realize that. My mind didn’t even process that melody in that manner. I love “Free Falling” LOL.
That really was the last I’d heard of him @killing myself softly — like that stands out in my mind. I will go do some research LOL.
