You know, I really don’t have much to say.
This video started off promising. I thought there was going to be something more than Beyonce’ twerkin’ her hamhocks and shiny legs for us for 4 minutes. Oh, how I hoped.
But then it morphed into what all her other videos have been recently — her and two dancers. The main difference this time though is that IT WAS IN COLOR! Alright! Yeah! *wamp*
And then at the end — she busted out that weavy lacefront wig. Lookin’ like a golden fembot meets Halle Berry/Adina Howard combo. LOL I was just so…flabbergasted.
Sure, we probably expect too much of Beyonce’, and budgets are probably tighter these days, but these recent spates of videos she’s released makes “Get Me Bodied” look Oscar worthy. The videos from B’Day were at least energetic and visually stimulating, even if the songs they were reflections of were sub-par at times. This time around, she needs a lot more people.
Of course, her stans think she can do no wrong, so she stay doing this ish. Oh well. I’m kinda over it.

Is it just me or does that opening dance sequence look A LOT like some MJ ish?
July 9, 2009 C.
from the begining I thought Farrah, Letoya and LaTavia were gonna bust through and get revenge.
but in a way it’s different from the other I Am vidoes with the cameras angles, effects and thangs. it’ll be interesting to see how she “re-invents” herself on the next album.

I particularly like the juxtaposition of her face/lyrics/odd body movements at 1:37 and again at 3:22.
But that only rivals the metallic boob dance at 3:49.

So, in short, all you needed to say is that Beyonce has a new video out, but it’s in color time. Ummm … sometimes I wish I could sit down with some of these artist and find out exactly what it is they’re going for ‘cuase I don’t get it a lot of the times.

i like it…

This is my fave song from b-day….well i only liked about 4 sooo yeah…but anyways she could have done so much with this video because of the content of the song and she didn’t. This was weird but not in a good way. Can we at least try on the next vid B !?
July 9, 2009 Ratchet
I kinda like it. It’s weird how it gets progressively more minimalistic as it goes on though, one would think it would be the other way around… Either way, she could have just stood there in the slashed silver dress for four minutes and it still would’ve been the shit…
@ STH: it does… and the funny thing is the video was shot months ago…

Damit Bey just release the other 50-11 videos you hold on to, there boring, lack creativity and repetitive. At least I could appreciate B-Day, but this is sad (cause we know you got paper Ms Executive Producer) stop just acting and just dancing and combo that ho! For you to idolize MJ you sure are not trying to get on his level in videos (not even tv worthy)
July 9, 2009 The IPS weed carrier
blah is all I can say. Creative? no. Minimalist? hell no. This is worse than the Drake video breast I ever had. B day had a better video catalog.

The bes thing about this video is at 1:30. That weird Krump/boogie thing she did. I LOVE IT.
But that’s all i love about it lmao.
I like the Metallic Lady Gaga outfit thingy too.

Gahhd, why is she so plain? It’s like she’s trying to do the whole “futuristic” and “different” thing, but she’s being lazy with it. It’s really hard for me to envy her. I wish she would just stop insisting on having dry, rat nest hair and a sweaty no make up face and trying to be “fierce” at the same time. Either do the natural look or do the fierce look and be all the way with it, stop trying to mix the two. I just think she’s getting lazy and putting out crap like this for people she knows worship her. The positive thing is she can still sing and the dance & 1:30 is funny.

I didn’t like the fingerwaves in her hair.
I can’t quite put my finger on what’s wrong with the video, either it’s overwhelming or underwhelming. It does feel like she has done this before.
She really needs some choreographers though, all that gyrating and booty tootin is not going to cut it. I need to see some real dancing, please.
July 10, 2009 stefkes
I Am the biggest Beyoncéfan in the world, but I honestly think Solange’s Sandcastle Disco vid was cuter. Both were in the same style tho.
Anyway, love both the girls, so no hate from me today.
July 10, 2009 whoohoo
coudn’t agree more the whole things just wamp. shes trying to hard to be an icon i think did the other icons state that they were trying to be icons didnt they just let the music speak for itself?
July 10, 2009 Ratchet
^ I could have sworn that Michael Jackson and his camp sent the “Black or White” video to stations with the stipulation that they refer to him as the “King of Pop” or not play it at all…
I also could have sworn that Aretha’s third album (for Atlantic records; ignoring the uncuccesses she recorded with Columbia) was titled “Lady Soul”.
Hmm…
Also, it took me a while to realize that this video evokes a lot of 60’s sci-fi imagery…

unsuccesses*
July 10, 2009 jani
Ratchet has a point. I think we give today’s artists a lot of harsh criticism or “hate”, but Michael Jackson and Aretha are icons. Beyonce will most likely be named as one in the future, but that’s because no one in the game is really touching her (they’re twittering about eating pancakes instead of perfecting their talents), but that’s still not excuse for her to be putting this crap out.

I am so glad that someone called this video out for what it is. Now I actually LIKE the song, so that’s why I’m so mad about the video…WTF?? Dry, stale choreography, some futuristic ish that is not on the level of a Hype Williams-style video (who should have directed it if she wanted to try to be “creative” and futuristic for once). The robotic ish at the end…broken glass…huh?? I know we are in a recession but damn, she could do so much better. A true artist/icon would try to make their music memorable, and even if they do bubblegum pop, be an INNOVATOR. I could have done better recording myself on my iphone. Mz Virgo said it best…it’s both underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time *sighs with exasperation and counting down for Alicia Keys and Jill Scott releases*
July 10, 2009 Meka
and if i see 2 more heffas dancing behind beyonce as her kelly/michelle standins in a video i’m going scream…
July 12, 2009 KodaBear
she scared the shit outta me with those fingerwaves, not cute. I agree with the lot of the statements, this was one of the good songs on her album, and she let it go to waste with tired choreography and bland imagery.

I just had to come back to LAUGH at anybody requesting that Hype “Letterbox” Williams do ANYTHING. He better not fuck up “Video Phone”.
