I first came across Laura Izibor when I was working on some movie soundtracks and her song “Mmm…”, and she’s since gone on to release an album hear in the States after much international critical acclaim. She’s an Irish born singer/songwriter/producer who’s yet to break through majorly in the here in the US.
Her voice is of that quality of Chrisette Michele’s — either you like it or you don’t. I don’t mind her at all, but she’s almost a mix of Oleta Adams, Anita Baker, Chrisette and Avril Lavigne vocally to me, if that makes any sense. Random, I know. However, her latest video for her single “Stay” features a pretty nice clip that illustrates the ups and downs of a relationship (mostly the downs) and features actor Rob Bacon (“Finding Forrester”).
I like how the clip shows that there is constant upheaval, day till night, and in the end, breaking up is easier to do than staying together. What do you think about Laura? Share your thoughts.

I think she’s fantastic. I heard this song along with a few others 2-3 years ago during a meeting at Atlantic. Everything I heard struck me as fresh, dynamic, and interesting.
She’s gonna have a lot to give if they can break her in at some point.

Yeah she does sound a little bit like Joss Stone. I just peeped the 30 second clips on Amazon and bought it just off that. The album goes pretty cheap on there (mp3 version).

glad i’m not the only one who thinks she sounds like joss stone…i thought js was singing “from my heart to yours” for the longest…
to me that’s the problem with laura-her voice is not distinctive but she tries so hard to make it so (like chrisette michele). folks need to take note from ledisi, jill scott, erykah badu…distinctive voices without trying so hard to do a vocal inflection every millisecond to sound believable. laura has talent though, no doubt
