I may be late.com with this one, but the director sent it over to me personally and I must say, I’m loving it. LOVING it!
Can you imagine a world where MTV actually played music videos and the videos actually told a STORY. One that immediately catches your attention and draws you in, both cinematically and contextually?
When you weave a visual picture that molds with what someone envisions with their mind’s eye, that’s when you GET us. I know for me, that is what draws my interest — when what I envisioned when I listened to the song is presented to me in a refined, perfected form. That’s what this director Matthew Cherry’s take on “In Love With Another Man” did for me.
The song itself is such a captivating tale told aurally. Jazmine wraps her mellifluous alto around these lyrics in such a way that she embodies an old African storyteller, passing down a cautionary tale in a literary circle straight from a book full of stories about love and heartbreak.
This video takes what you hear and makes it realistic and lifelike, ensconcing the words with visual emotion protrayed by the excellent actors.
Matthew Cherry has outdone himself — can you imagined what would have happened if he had directed “Lions, Tigers and Bears” or even “Bust Your Windows”?! Pure bliss. Those videos were such misses that I feel Jazmine lost a lot of people with those videos, despite how great the songs themselves are.
It’s time we get back to REAL stories, real emotions, and real creativity.
And this video was made for FREE and was purely the director’s take alone on this song. Let’s write letters to J Records to tell them where they can take their green screen and shove it! What do ya’ll think about this?
