Michael Jackson dies and then Whitney comes back sounding like a mix between Dionne Warwick and Brandy? I can’t handle all this, be still my heart!
Honestly, it’s not that she sounds bad. It actually sounds a lot better than I thought. Aside from the fact that she’s no longer a soprano, maybe more like a contralto, makes me a little sad. There are definitely some rough points and it’s just sad overall to hear how the quality and purity of her voice has declined. But it could have been MUCH worse.
You can definitely hear the wear and tear though, even on the “down” sections of the song. And it’s a shame that they built up into a big ending, only for their to be no key changes or overt music changes — she just sings a bigger note…a little bit louder.
I’m a little disappointed in the song (the 1st single at that apparently?) as well, but I appreciate the subject matter and what they were going for. It gets a little schmaltzy and cheesy though and I just wish she could have found another song that could have conveyed her message of “I’m here, I’m ok!” a little better. Diane Warren and David Foster were the writer/producer respectively though, and this is definitely their forte.
But…Whitney’s back. And she’s had a hell of journey. We can applaud that, but I’m not going to act like this song is the bomb cause it ain’t ya’ll. I’m rooting for her but I say…I’m not holding my breath.

I have heard it suggested that this track is not complete. I have heard that a better version might come out. What do you think about that?

This was all foreplay and no climax; and the foreplay was bunk.

I completely agree. This is why I think it cannot be the real deal. Clive Davis would make a huge deal over this?

your file isn’t working, but looked it up on youtube.
Almost sounds so incomplete that it could be an early demo version. I mean, the music is like next-gen midi. There’s also a huge lack of the big notes in there.
Her voice sounds a bit tired, and unedited.
Lots of lead-up but no climax

what i care about is the song, song, song…..she needs to get some good melodies going here. I even liked “like i never left” better than this.

Her voice is definitely not what it used to be, but I think that they should have released a more uptempo song instead of a ballad. Other than that, good to hear that she’s back again.
