    • New Music: Janelle Monae – “Come Alive (The War of the Roses)”

Janelle Monae – “Come Alive (The War of the Roses)” [Download/Listen]

I am loving this song! The vibe is all, rock/soul meets Addams Family/Monster Mash! Tell me I’m lying?!

Janelle Monae’s music has been a curious favorite of mine. At times I love it, other times I’m a little lackadaisical about it. Her Metropolis project, which was re-released by Diddy when she signed to Bad Boy was an exciting, future-leaning work. Her live performances have been 50/50 to me. Always energetic and spontaneously great, but vocally, not so much.

However, she’s finally put out some new music, teaming up with Kia for their Kia Soul Collective, which is just a fancy way of them getting exposure for their new Kia Soul car. It’s working.

The cut goes hard and has typical trademark Janelle rhythms and vocals, with a NASTY rock edge to it though. I’m loving it like McDonald’s though. Shouts to my boy Modi at DCtoBC.com as I spotted this joint at his house first!

Curious as to how she is going to affected by Diddy’s recent shifting from WEA to Interscope…hope she doesn’t regret that decision she made to sign to Bad Boy…

This song and Janelle monae are THE SHIT!!! I have waited SO long and I am NOT disappointed!~!!
You sound like a slight hater though????
She has her own label The wondaland Arts society for a couple of years now… and has NEVER been effected by a diddy, smitty, mitty??? Is this song any evidence??? Pay attention to DETAILS! it is a PARTNERSHIP! Atlantic records is distributing now… are you happy?

Anyway, I LOVE her and am rooting for her WITHOUT side negative comments, like u. smh

AND, “vocally not good live”? PLEASE! Gimme a break! I have been to 4 JM shows AND one of the MOST impressive things about her is that she is STILL able to keep her wind and vocals excellent while rocking out! Name someone, (outside Beyonce) who can do this???

        Peace ! I am a FAN for life… sorry for exploding… not really.xoxo!

Please correct your assumption — I’m not a hater. If I was a hater, I wouldn’t have posted this at all actually.

And the times I’ve seen her, a couple of times the vocals weren’t as point as I was expecting.

Good for her and her label and blah blah you acted like I minimized any of that. I was saying — HOW WOULD SHE BE AFFECTED by Diddy moving his business dealings elsewhere. Maybe she will, maybe she won’t but I don’t think question means I’m a hater. Come on…

LOL cant we just love the music? I’m excited to hear more from Janelle. I played the Metropolis EP to the ground and I just know that she is going to come even harder for the full length! I’m down!

I do love some Janelle, but I’m actually not so sold on this track. It’s very..very busy. I applaud the style and how she pulls it off but it just seems like a lot of noise and I can’t understand some of the lyrics. :/ Maybe this is a track I’ll have to be in a certain mood to listen to.

That said, I didn’t see any trace of “hater” in this post either. Diddy has let so many talented artists go to waste under his label and I do believe Janelle is one of them, otherwise she’d be atleast somewhat -known- outside of blogs like she should be if she’s signed to a major label.

I haven’t seen any clear clips of her performing though so I don’t know much about that. I did see one slightly fuzzy clip of “Cybertronic Purgatory” which was pretty good considering the key it was in.

She was getting on that Janis Joplin vibe there.. I love this track!

        I LOVE IT.

I’ve always loved Janelle! She had some solid hits back in the day on her Mixtape. But this song is amazing…i love the production

@The IPS (Blog owner) Ok… I apologize maybe I was wrong and a little off about your comments. Point taken.

All I am asking is that you (and other bloggers) pay attention to details and stop being lazy. Do research on the artist BEFORE you post. I have artist friends who do not like when bloggers just write off the top of their dome or not acknowledge the small details which do matter… I guess that’s where my issue lied with you.

Instead of using “PARTNERSHIP” and acknowledging she has her OWN label (which most artist don’t these days) and lots of control creatively (as may be evident) you chose to write “She signed to diddy”. Which is not all the way true and causes distraction form the music and people to focus on the demise of her career.
I am in PR and I WISH i could work with janelle and team so I pay attention to how bloggers can really stir up negative energy by the way they write.

Just my thoughts. we can agree to disagree.

What we do agree on is how DOPE this song is! peace!

Still disappointed that she signed with BadBoy, but after all this time waiting and waiting and waiting, it’s good to have her back. Hopefully the promotion and release will on point this time, but I doubt it.

She was doing so well by herself. She seemed so focused, like she and her band had it all mapped out. Then she signed with P Diddy/Daddy/Poppadiddypop.

Wow this song is very much alive and give an old electric feel to the listner… i love it..!

This is some good ol fashion punk funk at it’s best. Let go of any conceptions that all of the music will sound the same and you’ll be able to enjoy the true artistry in it’s purest form. Can’t wait to hear more!

      11. October 28, 2009 Chris D.

Awesome song. I love the rock/soul vibe. And her vocals on here are just amazing.
