I’ve posted some of Priscilla Renea’s music before, but I got ahold of this acoustic version of her song “Mr. Workabee” that is on her debut album which drops on December 1st with the title of Jukebox. I personally like Priscilla because how many black chicks play guitars and write such great pop songs!? Her metaphors and the way she makes common situations & stories into fun songs with great melodies really intrigues me.
“Mr. Workabee” is about a man who’s cheating all around town when he has a queen at home. I think that’s pretty dope LOL.
Cop Jukebox when it drops — she mixes a lot of different styles with her common thread being the way she approaches her music. She kind of reminds me of a Regina Spektor type with this song, yes/no? Share your thoughts!

Muhsinah – “That Day” [Listen & Download]
This joint started off totally different than the track and how I thought it was going to sound, but it’s pretty dope nonetheless. It feels like an old 80′s theme song musically, doesn’t it? Kind of relaxing, like you are taking a slow, nice and pleasant walk through a park in the spring time right between dusk and when the sun begins to dip over the horizon, hand in hand with a boo. *cough* excuse me!
Muhsinah is a singer/songwriter/producer that has been featured a lot with Foreign Exchange, and this track is from her new album which is set to drop December 1st as well! Her new album is called The Oscillations: Triangle and is the follow up to her last album The Oscillations: Square. After a few listens, I fell in love with this joint. Check out her Myspace for more info. Shouts to 2DopeBoyz for the track.

Everything I heard from Priscilla Renee before her first official single I absolutely loved, including Mr. Workabee, but… that new single and that vidjo… I cannot with all that.
::deep sigh:: I’ll still cop the debut just on GP though.

This is good, but when Corinne Bailey Rae, Winehouse and even perhaps *gag*Duffy*gaggaggagchokegag* came onto the scene making this style popular, it was new to the masses, different, interesting. Now it seems to have enabled a slew of people to be “different” too, turning it into almost a subgenre of pop in itself.
This wreaks of label cannibalization.

You think Priscilla Renea is like the aforementioned? Well, I can kinda see that but not really. Kind of.

it’s of the style. There are definite differences, but if there was a specific genre for it, they’d all be in it together.
