CJ – “Midnight Love”
CJ (CJ Hilton) has been around for a minute actually — I remember getting something from him when he was signed over at Capitol I believe. He was in the studio with Raphael Saadiq and a bunch of people, I knew some A&R’s that were working on his project. I’m assuming though that something didn’t work out and now he has a new situation and is being co-signed by superproducer Salaam Remi.
Also, celebrity DJ Driis (yes, the actor Idris Elba) is “presenting” this mixtape, and you can hear him getting his Missy Elliott on throughout this joint. That’s a good look for CJ though, a well known actor supporting…
CJ is a talented artist, singer, musician and songwriter though, and you can hear it through parts of this mixtape. As a whole, there’s not too much that really sinks in, but my favorites are the above “It Ain’t Easy” and “Midnight Love”. CJ has a strong voice and the potential is definitely there. His voice is almost what you’d expect Mario’s voice to sound like after all these years — they have a similar tone, but there is definitely room to grow and perfect and for originality.

He had me from jump when he started playing “Rocket Love” . . .
I am making a personal note to cop this when it comes out officially! This sh*t is literally blowing me away!
His sound is fresh (none of that “Radio Killa-Take That-Darkchild-etc etc” foolishness all over the place).
I’m really feeling “It Ain’t Easy.” Thanks for turning me on to this guy. I’d have never known about him otherwise.
