    • VH1 “Divas” Is Returning; Who Do You Want To See?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 22, 09

      Aretha & Mariah at 1998 VHI1 “Divas”

The storied VH1 show “Divas”, in which some of the “top” (depending on who you ask) female singers are honored and sing some of their biggest hits, is returning to the network.

I don’t even know if I can give them ANY play after all these coonified shows they’ve been showing though, but Lord KNOWS I love “Divas”.

However, they are opening it up to fan “input” (I’m sure…), but check it out:

VH1 is bringing back its “Divas” franchise for the first time since 2005, the music network announced on Monday (April 20). The performance special – which in past years has showcased Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Chaka Khan and Diana Ross – will air live on September 17 from the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House in New York.

In an effort to diversify the “Divas” lineup for its 2009 revival, VH1 has asked the public to offer its opinion on which top female talent should headline the show and perform an onstage duet. Fans can visit divas.vh1.com to cast their choices via the comments section. Over 2,000 comments have been posted since Monday morning. (Source)

My choices? For the younger generation?

Ledisi, Deborah Cox, P!nk, Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Martina McBride, Jully Black, Carrie Underwood and Tamia.

Who would you all like to see and why?

I agree with your choices. Throw Jazmine Sullivan’s saingin’ azz up in there, too.

      2. April 22, 2009 Bree

Great choices; I would love Tamia or Ledisi
I’ll have a fit if Beyonce is headlining though!

      3. April 22, 2009 miss_simplicty

My girl Banana Nut Bran Muffin. She better be performing or at least sitting in the audience lmao. But anybody then Beyonce would be cool with me!!!!!!!!

      4. April 22, 2009 Ratchet

If Beyoncé doesn’t do this, I will have a personal problem with her…

      5. April 22, 2009 Joan

      6. April 23, 2009 woohoo

i dunno abt pink but id love to see jazzmine sullivan or leona lewis

      7. April 23, 2009 T.G. the Brown Skin Lady

Umm…how nobody gonna put Chrisette Michelle on their list? I think she’d be great. I also agree with you on Ledisi, JHud and Fantasia…but the person who thinks Beyonce WOULDN’T be the natural headliner on this is smoking that good ooh wee, ’cause ain’t no way in hayell VH1 would give up that money-making opportunity. Bey as the headliner with a special appearances by Mariah Carey, and Whitney in the audience, FTW.

On another note though, I hope they bring back Pop-Up Video for this so we can see the behind the scenes notes like they had for the first one–those were HILARIOUS!

      8. April 23, 2009 The IPS
