    • Today Has Been A Day…Rest in Peace MJ.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 7, 09

Ya’ll, I am sorry for today’s lack of updates so far. I just wanted to take a minute and blog about Michael Jackson.

I made the decision early on to do medicine. But I got bit by the music bug and changed my whole life when I graduated from high school and decided to pursue a career in the music industry. Which I did. I layed aside all of my medical dreams to pursue a career in the music industry, going to school and getting a degree in it.

After many years of doing music, on a local, national and even a world scale on many different levels, I can honestly tell you who my inspirations were.

They were God and Michael Jackson.

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while you will know that I am a fan of Gospel music, and old school R&B. But I seriously loved Michael Jackson’s music and his awesome talent.

So when this whole rumor started and then turned out to be true, I just pretty much lost it. It was the day music DIED for me. Not to sound dramatic, but everything just sounds so…hollow.

I can’t even in good conscience write any blog posts today about bulls*it music artists or whatever because it is SO no important.

I started writing blogs about Drake, Melanie Fiona, etc. and not to say that they are all bad or anything, but…I just can’t. The words don’t even emerge from my fingertips. All I can think about is Michael Jackson is gone and he was one of the main reasons I even got into this business.

Let’s remember the man today for his gift. We are all human, we all have shortcomings and issues, but it’s not about that. Let’s a make a change fellow musicians and bloggers to spotlight the good, promising people who are doing music as an ART and not as a means for them to “blow up” and become “stars”. I’m tired of people raping their gifts for fame in other markets or arenas.

I hope that you understand this and will come back tomorrow as we get back to our regular schedule.

Here here, IPS. Michael Jackson has proven to be the biggest name in music, but above all, he was a wonderful and talented artist that used his gift for good and not just for personal gain. He will truly be missed and music will NEVER be the same. RIP MJ.

I watched and recorded the memorial service and it was beautiful. What touched me was CNN showing the shots all around the country of people holding hands and praying at the end. I couldn’t keep it together and I really just boo hooed when MJ’s daughter spoke. I have to ask though. Where was Rebbie?

      4. July 7, 2009 Cocoa

We have lost the greatest singer of our generation, we all grew up on Michael…I cant believe he is gone…. I was ok through the whole thing until his daughter came out on that stage…. It was at that time, I lost it…I dont think we have ever heard any of those children utter a word, it was at that time that I saw him not only as an entertainer but as a DAD. Bless those kids they lost their father, to us he was an entertainer, role model etc, but to them he was DAD… Rest in Peace Dear Michael Jackson. We will miss you so much…. (crying now)

I feel you IPS. I said the same thing the day he left us. Music just died. I just now started listening to music thats not MJ. My mom use to always tell me stories of how the first song I ever song was The Way You Make Me Feel at 4 years old. I really feel like I lost a member of my family. Today has been so emotional, but MJ will never really die. His body may be gone, but we wil always have him. There has never been or will there every be another artist that has touched so many people on so many different levels all over the world. I think Stevie Wonder said it best, God needed him a lot more then we did.

I pray for all of use to touch lives the way Michael Jackson did. RIP MJ.

IPS I read your blog everyday & I understand your sentiments & share your concerns in every way. Today is a sad day in music. We Got To Do Better!

      7. July 7, 2009 Miss Jaye

A gaping hole has been left in the music industry with Michael’s passing…this is truly a sad, sad time…

      8. July 7, 2009 Carol

Co sign with all you said. There are not many REAL artists out there today. Most are just about getting paper and blowin up.

Michael Jackson clearly was not that type of artist/entertainer. Michael was music and truly cared about his craft. It has been said before, but there will NEVER be another like Michael Jackson. He was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed. I’ve been crying all week. Can’t help it. Sad and tragic ending to a much beloved entertainer…and phenomenal human being.

Michael J Jackson 1958-Forever. We love you.

      9. July 7, 2009 Evil Kinegro

I agree. This week has shown just how much Michael Jackson meant to me. You probably read my twitter and all I kept posting. The most powerful thing was hearing his voice, and sobbing so hard my sister had to hold me. That hasn’t happened since my father’s funeral 5 years ago.

This is a loss that cuts deep. It has affected us personally and as a culture, and I hate that people don’t have the open-mindedness to see that.

        I had a point, but I lost it somewhere…
Just know that He was so loved, and that I know exactly what you mean.

I was moved by the memorial … and his daughter speaking at the end, “He was the best father ever” simply broke my heart. There is so much to this man that we don’t know … I will only remember the good, because I think that is all that he ever gave. Al spoke it best when he said, “Your daddy wasn’t strange. It was strange what he had to deal with!”

@Rebecca … Rebbie was there. Toward the end when all of the siblings got together she was standing (when Jermaine was speaking) to the far left of your screen (may have been cut out). She had a black hat on that was considerably smaller than the one Latoya was wearing.

      11. July 8, 2009 Ahuggs10

I second that emotion. How can I even listen to radio with songs like “Bust it Baby,” when real music and magic just died? Simply put…you can’t.

There are very few artist who do what they do for the fans, stricly for the fans. Michael Jackson is one of them. And the only person I can think of who does it for the fans and not the fame is Mariah Carey (say what you want, but she loves her lambs and knows they got her when no one else does!).

I had tickets for his concert in London and I’m sad that the day after his 51st b’day I won’t be seeing him in his last show. His concert was the first show I ever went to, and my heart goes out to his family, friends and fans.

        Keep music alive.

      12. July 8, 2009 kelis

I just want to say how pleased I was with the memorial. It couldn’t have been any better or more well put together. I cried like a baby the whole time, but when Paris spoke, it really hit me. I honestly felt like I lost a member of my family also.

It’s really sad that people today don’t take the time or have the dedication to make great music with a real purpose like Michael did. And I will really miss the love he had for the world and especially for his fans. I hope he can rest now, because he never got any peace while he was here.

      13. July 8, 2009 The IPS

Overall I was super pleased with the memorial. It was pretty great and fitting and wasn’t as much of a trainwreck that I thought people thought it was going to be. His daughter…lawd. That just laid me out on the floor…that was crazy.

      14. July 8, 2009 whoohoo

his memorial was fit for a king the whole show was so emotional but when paris broke down it damn near broke my heart. even though i wasn’t alive when he was at the peak of his fame in the 80′s when the world was jacko crazy i can still appreciate how important his music is. the stuff out nowadays is so disposable none of it will stand the test of time like michael’s will. it so sad but he is at peace now.
