Oprah, Queen of the World, featured some of our favorite R&B artists alongside some not-so-R&B artists on her show on Monday singing some classic Christmas music for the world to hear. Cause everyone in the world watches Oprah.
Alicia Keys had a duet with Tim McGraw, Mary J. Blige had a duet with Andrea Boccelli and Jennifer Hudson had a duet with Sugarland on “Oprah’s Holiday Music Extravaganza”.
Above you’ll see my favorite, which was Jennifer Hudson with Sugarland. I love Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland. That woman sings DOWN. I gotta say, she outdid J. Hud at the beginning, but then Jennifer Hudson started to pull it out towards the end. I loved their performance of “Silent Night” though. LOL @ Oprah tombout “Silent Night ain’t so silent no more!”
The rest of the performances, in order of my favorites, after the jump!
Mary J. Blige is no Aretha and this was no “Nessun Dorma” but she did a really great job! It’s hard to keep up with Andrea Boccelli ROFL, shoot. And let me tell you, it took every fibre of Mary’s being to hold back and not flip this into a church affair AND to keep up with Andrea. You can just see her WORKING to get all them notes out RIGHT and PERFECT. Andrea? He breezed through this. LOL. I got goosebumps toward to the end, Mary and Andrea did that! “What Child Is This” — if you don’t know, now you do.
Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw do “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”, which is a John Lennon and Yoko Ono song. This didn’t really drive me too wild, but it wasn’t bad. I’ve heard this song done better. My main problem with Alicia is that I swear she doesn’t have any middle ground in her voice. She’s always just belting at level 10 lately. No dynamics for real. She takes all the nuances out of songs live, honestly. Tim McGraw kind of struggled towards the end. This just kinda fell apart to me.

Loved J.Hud and Sugarland, which is a great country act. You right, she does sing DOWN.
Mary J and Alicia’s duets were BLAH.
I wish they would have let Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum do a duet with some R&B artists. OH well, next time.

see, Jennifer Nettles did an amazing performance at the Inauguration.
I think a lot of people overlook country stars because of the musicality, but what they’re forgetting is as far as vocal performances, many country acts will blow pop & r&b acts out of the water.
