Timbaland been talking all kinds of reckless lately in the press. But his latest comments have made me scratch my sideeye continuously, even more so than his start/stop way of talking and the way his arms look like they were attached to his body surgically!
In the above clip in a sitdown with MTV, he says the following:
After my last album, I know where my bread and butter is at,” Tim explained. “I know 75 percent [of the people who buy my album] are women who love Timbaland and most are the women who watch ‘Desperate Housewives’ and all those others. I did this research. It’s the women who watch ‘Sex and the City,’ ‘Desperate Housewives’ — all the real go-to-the-bar women like Timbaland, and mostly European women. It lets me know that my fanbase is mostly women and they are from all cultures. So it’s not a person who loves mostly hip-hop. It’s a person who loves everything besides hip-hop.”
OK I might can see that. His music has progressively gotten further and further away from “hip-hop” strictly, though one could argue Tim was NEVER just a hip-hop producer in the first place. His music has always been a melange of different types of music, PUT into a hip-hop template.
“I was done with hip-hop a long time ago,” he said. “Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there’s nobody from my generation besides Jay who’s doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye is acceptable from my generation.
Clearly, what with his production of people like Chris Cornell, Ashlee Simpson, Madonna, etc. However, those productions kinda flopped critically…though I’m still sure Timbo got his $$ upfront. And Shock Value II is a lot of things, but the most hip-hop thing on that record are Drake and…Brandy. Where were Jay and Wayne on this album? Were they done with him?
Then, recently he’s also had some statements that have caught eyes regarding Ciara and Lady GaGa:
“What’s her name GaGa b-bla-bla? Yeah I wanna work with Lady GaGa, me and her are kinda the same style. I feel like she took my style (pauses) and ran with it… which is smart. I would do the same thing. I’ll put her on the re-package cos I’m a do a re-package”.
I’m sorry, how did GaGa take Timbo’s style? Dance/pop? If anything, not only is trying to steal GaGa’s shine, he’s ALSO throwing major shade to Akon (who signed GaGa and gave her a chance) and RedOne (the producer who has done most of her #1 hits). The pop joints Timbo has done haven’t really done nearly as much as GaGa’s done…
And he’s already planning a repackage of Shock Value II? HOW DREADFUL.
On Ciara:
There’s no more R&B, so all I listen to is “baby girl” (Aaliyah). I was excited about Ciara. I gave her my blessings because she was in the right footpath, the right footsteps as I would say. I think that she was going in the right direction and I love her to death. People would say “Oh Ciara is the next Aaliyah” – yes she is. She keeps my girl alive, so when I hear Ciara a tear come out my eye, coz I’m like “wow, she ain’t forgotten”.”
That sound is still gonna be heard. These kids who don’t know [and know] Ciara will go “Who she sound like? Baby girl Aaliyah” and then they go back and buy the Aaliyah stuff and be like “Aaliyah sound better than her” or somethin’. The point is Aaliyah won’t be forgotten”.
Umm, no, no one was saying Ciara was the next Aaliyah. We were saying that she was COPYING Aaliyah. Aaliyah was original, talented as she was though, Aaliyah was not the end all/be all of R&B/pop in the 90’s. Sure I’m sad she dead, but Timbo, you really need to find a new circle of friends. It’s 2010. What’s next, Miley Cyrus is the next Aaliyah? LOL.
And how would he pass over Keri Hilson, one of his protegees for Ciara?! That’s shade to Keri to me — and she’s way more talented than Ciara. Writes, sings better, etc. But then again…Aaliyah was an entertainer moreso than a strict “singer”…hmmm.
iCan’t with him today overall though. What ya’ll think of his statements?

HUH? I am so confused by all of his comments..so the 30/40-something white ladies are the ones that are checking for Timbaland now?He throws shade at RarararomaromamaGAGA yet in basically the same sentence says he wants to work with her?Saying Ciara’s only function is basically to let Aaliyahs legacy live on? iCant indeed! I remember when Timbaland and Missy ruled the r&b/hiphop industry, you could always expect some dope ass creative work from them..*shrugs*

I think the first thing that needs to be said is that not all producers are going to make it as artist, the sooner they realize that, the sooner we can be saved from their whining about not getting the credit they deserved. His problem is that he is trying too hard to make music that fits into something. If you’re a no talent as a rapper, thats the problem, its not the consumers fault. I’m not even going to watch the video, looking like Violet from Willy Wonka.

he needs to sit his ass down but then im afraid if he does we wouldven never gotten the fray and esthero together on a track or jojo would never be heard again outside of covers of other peoples song bc his beats are sick and the way he gets people to collaborate he just needs to keep his mouth off of the track

Ciara doesn’t copy Aaliyah! Aaliyah wasn’t the first tomboy to grace this earth, so why can’t anyone else do it? People are original, but then complainers find ways to relate them to others in random/ridiculous ways.
Sorry, but if Aaliyah was still alive, I doubt people would go on about her this much. As usual, you die and then suddenly people love you.
