Jay-Z was on Oprah and they talked about a lot of stuff. Peep Part 1 and then Parts 2, 3 and 4 after the jump.
In Part 1, Oprah asks him what he’s wearing (cologne wise), how rap has affected the culture at large (in which Jay says that rap has done more than anything to affect racism in our time through the power of music as a universal language and how racism is not taught in music but is taught in the home), how powerful it is that Oprah was standing in Marcy Projects with him, and more. In Part 1 they also do a walkabout of his old home, Marcy Projects, and talk some of his history and why he turned to drug dealing initially. They toured his grandmother’s house where he lived until he was 5, with the crowds building. Also was brought up how his father’s leaving affected him emotionally and the eventual reconnection of the two spurred on by his mother. Lastly, how he never got high on his own supply!
The other parts after the jump!
Part 2 consists of Oprah reminiscing about how Beyonce’ was on many years ago and Oprah told her not to talk about her boyfriends — and how she obviously took that statement to heart, then they take a tour of his offices/headquarters of Jay-Z in “CEO” mode at Rocawear. You also get a glimpse of him working on finalizing Blueprint 3 album details, and some of his inspirational items that he keeps in his office. Lastly, Oprah asks Jay “what made all of this happen?”
In Part 3, Oprah asks Jay his thoughts on the whole Rihanna/Chris Brown situation (Jay says that he told Rihanna that she could either grow from this situation and share her experiences while being a spokesperson or she could choose not to grow at all). They also get down to the nitty-gritty about how Oprah is not a fan of hip-hop because of its misogynistic lyrics and use of the n-word. Jay feels that his generation took the power out of that word and turned it into a term of endearment — and Oprah thinks that her generation fought for civil rights and that word carries too large a sense of hatred and degradation so that her opinion will never change. They are “agreeing to disagree” FOREVER LOL.
Part 4 shows Oprah learning how to rap (which is really cute to me, can’t help it).
Make sure you go get the full interview in O magazine, which is on newsstands now. Oprah has let hip-hop onto her stage — but for only 30 minutes and followed up by Barbara Streisand. Oy. And of course, there was no performance, which I noticed…

I've never been much of a Jay Z fan, but after watching this interview he made a believer out of me. This was the first time I have actually listened to him talk and he is so much milder then you would think. He seems like a genuinely good person. I think he is one of the few that give rappers a good name.

WOW. If having no rhythm was a sin Oprah would bust the hinges off of hell. I still love her though!

I only wished that the interview with Jay-Z was an hour long, and not a half an hour. I feel robbed somewhat.

She actually contradicted herself on her n-word argument in the magazine interview.
