There has been a small uproar over in Londontown as President Obama & First Lady Michelle are visiting and making nice with the Royals. In the midst of this, Michelle apparently reciprocated a gesture from Queen Elizabeth and it has caused some controversy.
I thought, “ooh she touched a YT lady!” but apparently it’s not allowed to touch the Queen. However, the Queen was the one who broke protocol by placing her hand on the small of Michelle’s back. Michelle then returned the favor and put her arm briefly around the shoulders of the Queen.
Or hey, maybe the Queen just wanted to touch the donk! Who knows!
According to eyewitnesses, the exchange occurred as the Queen was waiting in the Throne Room following the official group picture with the national leaders here for the G20 Summit.
One said: ‘There was a bit of a bottleneck as all of the leaders filed out so the Queen started chatting to Michelle Obama. She appeared to look up at her and make a comment about how tall she was.
‘As she did, she put her arm around Mrs Obama and rested her gloved hand on the small of her back.’
Almost simultaneously, Mrs Obama put her arm around the Queen’s shoulders rather more firmly.
‘The pair then looked at their feet and appeared to be discussing their shoes.
‘The Queen then dropped her arm and, a few seconds later, Michelle did the same. The entire exchange lasted around eight to ten seconds but was absolutely extraordinary.’
No-one – including the ladies-in-waiting standing nearby – could believe their eyes. In 57 years, the Queen has never been seen to make that kind of gesture and it is certainly against all protocol to touch her.
‘But she didn’t seem to mind a bit and was smiling and joking throughout,’ the eyewitness said. (Source)
Well, I get what the big deal is but come on, it’s really not THAT big of a deal. You know us negroes are a friendly bunch. *rolls eyes*
I’m so proud of our President and First Lady. They are overseas repping! They are OUR royal family! They are doing a great job and are representing America well.
What do you all think about this “controversy”? It’s definitely fitting of their moniker of “change”! I want to hear from the UK/European readers as well!

I think Michelle just wanted to touch the royal garment.. But all jokes aside I believe it says a lot that the quuen initiated the gesture and that she hasn’t done that with anyone else.

Well, welcome to the 21st century where the queen is human just like the rest of us.

LMAO i remember when i was around 8 or 9, the queen came to my school and we perfomed “Macbeth” for her. During the meet and greets, I remember giving her a hug…WOW.you would have thought i was a terrorist! I was pulled back by her guards before you could say “WTF?!”…then i remember my mum complaining to the headteacher afterwards about how the queen was “racist” LMAO..
Anyhoo..I don’t really see what the big deal is..There have a been few British celebs and stuff who have touched the queen and it wasn’t front page news. I don’t think us Brits give a damn about the Queen and what she does anymore to be honest.
When is she gonna die?! It’s been a century already hasn’t it? Charles must be pissed LOL.
