I love when artists do creative things to push their own careers. Email blasts, leaked mp3’s and co-signs can only get you so far. I LOVE that she took to the streets — literally — and is advocating good music and her awesome voice.
And can I just say that if I had been walking down the street and seen Melanie Fiona singing on a platform I would have LOST.MY.MIND!
Anyway, she takes to the city streets to recreate some of her songs live and with various forms of instrumentation. On “Sad Songs” she has a steel drum player, Please Don’t Go (Cry Baby) she has some buckets, and on “Bang Bang” she has beatboxing. How can you not love that?
Check it out, and if you haven’t read our interview yet, make sure you do. The Bridge is finally going to be available via digital download October 20th, BTW.

Via DIGITAL DOWNLOAD in the states? Hey, I got my hard copy in the north here, but this lack of promotion for Melanie, not a peep for Laura Izibor and the constant US date push for my man Daniel Merriweather’s album to drop is just borderline ridonkulous (yes, that’s how I spelled it). Why don’t record labels in N. America just say, “we can’t be bothered to support int’l acts making good music. For every Amy Winehouse and Adele, we stil need tons of Soljaboys and another dumb poppy rock band to keep the kids satisfied, ya know?” You mean, Estelle can’t pass one hit wonder? She’s better than MOST R&B acts! Thank God for people like Maxwell and Chrisette Michele to be #1 and A.Keys has something to offer despite a so-so single. What the F&%K ever!
Despite my rant, could Melanie get anymore talented? I love you girl. You represent Canada proud. :) Thank you for keeping good music alive.

Oh sorry, I saw Nov. 10 for release date. LOL.
I don’t apologize for ranting, though.

Gotta say that I don’t like the “studio” version of The Bridge, but I did like the remixes with the dude from the Roots (I believe that is what group he is from). Anyway, I must say that I love her youtube vidoes and what not. That is what I wish her cd would sound like.

@Whateva, I AGREE. The remixes with ILLFONIC are HOT and much more organic and funky than the album but I’m hearing that the Melanie Fiona will only be $5.99 when it releases tomorrow on iTunes…might pick it up.
