    • Mariah’s “Memoirs” Just Got A Little More Interesting.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 18, 09

As her 2nd single — cause since “Obsessed” fared terribly on the charts, they are calling it a “street single.”

      Girl bye!

You telling lies, but we know the truth, as Pastor Shirley Caesar say.

However, Mariah Carey’s track record with covers is pretty A+ in my book. And this is one of the biggest power ballads EVER. Even her voice as it stands could probably do justice to this — color me slightly excited now.

Foreigner’s Mick Jones can start ordering caviar and Champagne again: Mariah Carey is releasing her own gospel-tinged version of his masterwork song, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

It’s the first “real” single from her new album following the summer release of the witty “Obsessed,” which is also included on “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” The album and the single hit the world on Sept. 29th. (Source)

I’m all for Mariah ballads, especially “gospel-tinged” ones. “Fly Like A Bird” was the best song that last CD of hers, personally.

Mr. Friedman also talks about some of the other songs and what-not that are going to be on the album:

The other songs on the album — these are the titles, although the running order is still being finalized: “Betcha,” “Obsessed,” “H.A.T.E.U.,” “Candy Bling,” “Ribbon,” “Standing O’s.,” “Impossible,” “It’s a Wrap,” “Inseparable,” “Up Out My Face,” “More than Just Friends,” and “Angels Cry.”

Several of these are radio ready. “Angels Cry” is an honest-to-god ballad a la “Vision of Love,” and should be a gigantic success. “Standing O’s” also has potential, as do “H.A.T.E.U.” — which stands for “having a typical emotional upset” — and “Inseparable.”

Hmm, hopefully this is all gonna come together and meaning that that Nick Cannon-thang temporarily had her out of her mind with “Obsessed”…

This just sounds like diaster. I Want To Know What Love Is is actually one of my favorite songs and I don’t Mariah voice can do this justice. Maybe if it was 1993 Mariah, but her voice is weak now. However, I’ll probably buy the album. I still have hope!

I liked Obsessed actually…I liked it because it was SOMETHING FINALLY DIFFERENT FROM HER….Now she going back to her old ways…Ugh….But I believe she just put that out so fast because well of course of Eminem, that type of music is in now but she couldnt really get the direction of it…So she passed it off as street single…

Woah…. I Wanna Know What Love Is? Really? With Auntie Mimi’s voice in the condition it’s in right now she better have those humidifiers on full blast 24/7 till recording day!

If she pulls it off she’ll win me back as a fan.

Get your facts right baby boy…”Obsessed” may not have been an out the box smash, but it is steadily growing and turning into a bonafide hit for her. Lest we forget, “It’s like that” (the first single from TEOM) peaked at #16, and look how that album fared? This is not a bad song…and a decent first single. Hopefully they get the single choices right this time, after the disasterous single choices (except “I Stay in love”…should have been the third single after “Migrate”) of the last album.
