While this song is really a nice return to the stage for Ms. Arnold, I can’t help but root for her having some strong material on this new album of hers. She’s going to have to mix life influences, past musical allegiances, current trends and some good ole fashioned “editing” to make sure that she comes back strong on the music tip.
This song is just a safe choice for me — from the lyrics to the musical melody and everything else. I just hope she doesn’t go the way of Brandy’s Human album and turn in a body of work that is kind of hard to relate too and get into the groove of.
Monica’s looking great and she sounds decent, but based on the music alone, I’m not really feeling pressed to go get a new Monica joint. This was an emotional performance and we are focusing on her story and her testimony, but I hope the music doesn’t suffer as a result.
Love Monica though — but ya’ll know I ride for Brandy! LOL! There’s enough room for both though…she’s been through a lot and she’s humble and appreciative and I love that about her…

“Love Monica though — but ya’ll know I ride for Brandy!”
My sentiments exactly.
This is my first time hearing this song. I was bored with it. I love Monica, I do… but I need a little bit more than this. I respect how personal this song is though… it might grow on me like “Right Here (Departed)” had to… but I dunno…

i was waiting for ludacris to pop out with a big “LUDA!” and spit his verse becuase this was so boring. i love monica, but i am a ride or die fan for b-rocka(brandy lol) and they both have dissapointed me for far with their latest efforts. we need some real sangers to be on top of the charts, not rihyena and be(yawn)ce.

BOOOOOO!!!!!
She know betta. This song is “hood.” It doesn’t translate well with a purely live sound. If the beat was more electronic, and hit a bit harder, MAYBE I would have enjoyed it a bit more.
And since Monica keeps it real with us, I’m gonna keep it real with her: YOU SOUND LIKE SHIT! And trust me, I say that with love. I know you’re talented, but you’re gonna need a LOT more people to convince ME.
I knew from the first 5 seconds of her singing that this was gonna be a massive fail. I think I’m learning that she just doesn’t have full control of her voice. There were bum notes everywhere. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever been blown away by a Monica performance.
I’m gonna need to see an acceptable “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” rendition on youtube for Ms. Arnold to get me to drop part of my unemployment check on her latest offering.
