    • Live Performances: Maxwell Does “Pretty Wings” on Letterman

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 13, 09

Maxwell dropping it like it’s hot and thangs and screaming and phew, I was tired looking at him sometimes. The highlight of this performance though is that band, horns and the chick singing backup!

This song never gets old to me, but some people said they don’t like it. Why? I want to know your opinions. Hit up the comment section. Others prefer “Bad Habit”. Then I saw on Twitter some folks weren’t feeling the album at all. His album was on track to sell almost 300K copies though, which is great!

      Let’s discuss!

Pretty Wings is an OK song but it just doesn’t have that… umph that a comeback single i think should have. To me it kinda sounds like he’s….talking the whole song instead of singing it. I did hear some snippets of the other songs on the album and they all sound much better than Pretty Wangs lol.

I’m part of the few that don’t like it. I’m actually not a fan of any of his music though.

      3. July 13, 2009 jsd

I love Maxwell and I’m not disappointed in his CD at all. It just seems like it ends so soon because there’s not that many songs on it. I loved Bad Habits more than Pretty Wings at first but Pretty Wimgs grew on me tremendously. Now I love it, it’s such a beautiful song. I love the whole cd.

      4. July 13, 2009 jsd

…Also want to add that I think people had very high expectations just because he waited so long to release new music. So maybe that’s why some are disappointed.

I don’t like Pretty Wings either, like Jene’ said it doesn’t have that umph to it…It’s such a bland song, actually, I think Pretty Wings is the weakest song on the album. Now Bad Habits is the jam, that should’ve been the 1st single.

      6. July 13, 2009 SororSalsa

Not sure why Pretty Wings was relased before Bad Habits…that songs kills! I got a copy of the CD about a month before it was released, but I went into it knowing that unless Sweet Minty Jesus himself was singing background and on bass, it might not live up to my 8-year expectations.

Now…if D’Angelo releases a CD this year, we’ll know we’re in our last days.

Wow ya’ll really didn’t like “Pretty Wings” — I thought it was awesome. Who woulda thought it.

While a little downtempo, I think it builds beautifully and I love it. I do love “Bad Habit” more though, I think we all agree on that.

      9. July 14, 2009 theemayne1

all y’all crazy…lol I’m jamming the entire CD with the exception of the 7th and 8th songs. Not too shaby considering he has nine tracks..

I love pretty wings. I can definitely relate to the lyrics. Bad Habits is also an amazing song. Maxwell can do no wrong in my eyes. Favorite song on the album is Cold.

Personally, Fistful of Tears is my favorite song of the cd.

      21. July 24, 2009 Rina

I love the whole Maxwell so much I had to make a copy so I wouldn’t scratch the original. My favorite is Stop the World and Help Somebody but all of his songs have meaning and they are very beautiful.

      22. August 18, 2009 Keva

Maxwell, in my opinion, is TREMENDOUS!!! I love the dvd that was included with the his new cd. This dvd allows us to see exactly what went in to his music and the meaning behind the words in the lyrics. Maxwell is a classy, sexy, and talented man and I can’t wait for the next cd to be released.

      23. September 14, 2009 bollaboy
