    • Live Performances: Alicia Keys Does “Doesn’t Mean Anything” on Regis & Kelly

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 14, 09

Alicia Keys is out promoting her new single “Doesn’t Mean Anything” since her new album is supposed to be coming out in December, and I feel like the initial reaction was good but after that, I hadn’t heard too much about this song until I found this performance today. I watched it on Monday, but forgot to look for the video, wamp.

And that kinda sums up how I feel about this song. It’s REALLY MOR/bland (MOR = middle of the road). This song could EASILY be a John Mayer song, yes? And yet, it also sounds like “No One” to me, just with a higher BPM.

However, this performance starts off low-key, I’m assuming purposefully to make it seem this song has any real dynamics to it. The band does a nice subtle job of livening up the arrangement, but other than that, I’m not to sold on “Doesn’t Mean Anything” quite yet…

I am just so conflicted about her. I loved Alicia for many years but this shit with Swizz Beats is killin me. I mean not really but my level of respect has just plummeted. Lawd help me with my fake dilemma.

You know what, I forgot to be mad about all the Swizz Beatz stuff LOL, seriously. I really forgot.

Alicia Keys bores me and this song is the pits. that is all.

lol @ forgot to be mad….But yeah the song is kind of same-y to me.
I’m sure the album will come out fine tho.

You know, I HATED “No One” when I first heard it, but I really like “Doesn’t Mean Anything”…pedestrian? Sure. Groundbreaking? No. Her best single? Nope (that honor goes to either “You Don’t Know My Name” or “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”)…but given this song on its own, in its own context, I like it.

Whether it will be a smash is another guess altogether.

I don’t buy the whole Mashonda/Alicia stole my husband thing. Please explain how a husband can be stolen? Only certain blogs keep putting that ish out. And we know how wrong must of their info is (..bossip..)! I still have respect for Alicia.

But on to the music! This song is just okay. I stan for Alicia, but I think she could have done much more for her first single. I think the song would have been much better with a string arrangement.

the song is soooooo bland….where is the soul Alicia? did u give it to Swizz Beats?

      11. October 16, 2009 Aida

My momma gonna be happier than a MF’er (HA did I just say that) cause she looooooooooooooooooved her some ‘No One”. She even made me print out the lyrics -mind you,English wouldn’t even be my momma’s 5th language HA! – so she could “sing” along.

Alicia can be so gorgeous some times.

i’m usually a stan for alicia keys but i’m not sold on this song either. i usually root for her when she comes out (she usually outsells beyonce lol) but this song doesn’t do it for me at all. and the whole fake swizz beatz drama is probably hurting her with some fans. oh well-she’s not paying any of my bills so if her album drops with a thud it won’t hurt my feelings. but she needs a MUCH bigger, less “no one” sounding, more soulful song for me to be sold on it.
