    • Live Performance: Musiq’s Not Sounding “So Beautiful” In This Clip

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 21, 09

Phew, my vocal coach always said “if you start out wrong you’ll end up wrong” and that old adage is applicable in this performance by Musiq of his joint “So Beautiful”.

However, it gets progressively dicey as he gets further into the song. Now, keep in mind, singing this song is probably no walk in the park and I couldn’t do it LOL. It’s all falsetto/head voice and he kills it on the record and for the most part here as well.

There is just some pitchy moments that are kind of painful, and it happens pretty often LOL. BECAUSE this song is all falsetto they are pretty easy to hear as well.

He does have his bright spots though. The whole performance is salvageable on the whole. I like Musiq and his last album grew on me as well. I’ve seen him a couple of times love and I’m a fan overall.

On My Radio was a mixed bag of an album for most people — for those who bought it though, this song was definitely one of the standouts. What ya’ll think about this performance and/or his latest album?

Yeah…that is odd…his voice sounded VERY shaky. I thought he had better control than this live…maybe a bad voice day? The band was nice lol.

F*ckups aside, this dude has some chops. I had no idea he was capable of hitting some of those notes in a live setting. He doesn’t strike me as the type to rely on studio wizardry to make us think he’s capable of doing something he’s not. As wobbly as he sounds here, I’m sure he’ll perform this again sometime in the near future and sound damn near flawless. He’s just having a bad (hair) day.

This performance started off pretty good and it went wayyyy downhill once he started the 2nd verse.

“On My Radio” was decent but it’s definitely not his best album, some songs didn’t quite fit with the rest of the album (Radio & Iwannabe) but I still enjoyed it.

      4. October 22, 2009 collegechick205

It was a little rough but I saw him perform live 2 weeks ago and he was on point. The all girl band and his energy was great. I enjoyed myself. I actually like OnMyRadio for the most part so I don’t really have any complaints. As far as this performance, it wasn’t his best but I’ve seen people perform worst.

      5. October 25, 2009 eazyedamvp

well, it’s not horrible but i would have been pissed had i paid for this. it just sounds like he’s out of breath. maybe he ran from the dressing room to the stage? i’ve seen him a few times here and he’s never sounded like this so he’s forgiven. however, i will not forgive him combining all the words of the song titles into one. i’m over it – lol. “onmyradio” is actually my favorite cd by him.

monique annoys me. that is all.

Ok this is my favourite (dont comment on the ‘u’) song from him of all time so I’m commenting before I see it, then I’ll comment afterwards. If he doesnt do this song justice it will hurt me deep down inside!

      7. November 3, 2009 Donnz

LMAO at eazyedamvp and running from the dressing room and being out of breath.

I agree with IPS and the falsetto comment- He should have been more on point. 1st verse was better than others would have done but its below his standards. It wasnt tragic though lol. I’m searching for another live performance of this song though KMT I am slightly disappointed (KMT= Kissing my teeth)
