Kelly Rowland Performs “When Love Takes Over” on SYTYCD
Everytime I hear Kelly sing this song, I wince a little in anticipation of some bad notes that may be hit. It’s SO high!
For the most part, this performance was alright. Is it me or did she sound a little winded at times toward the end? She’s from Destiny’s Child, how you tired?!
I’m just glad to see Kelly working on American soil again LOL. Shame she had to go overseas to get a worldwide hit that is still semi-trending in the States (and honestly was just doing guest vocals on). She looks great though.
Who’s good this season on SYTYCD? I’ve not been watching…

She always sounded winded live even in DC, that’s why she would always go to the audience with that “HOW Y’ALL DOIN’?” stuff…

I think she has more potential with further development in the right hands to be bigger than Beyonce and incredibly less annoying.
I think this is a solid song for the gays, and it seems to be crossing over to pop, which is good.
I also think it’s just a re-introduction. It’ll be interesting to see what she follows up with.
I think Mariah should have went in this direction before releasing another crap-tastic album. Tease people…it works!
The guys left in SYTYCD are marginal, I really think this season is all about the girls, and each one who’s left (besides perhaps Jeanine) are pretty awesome.

is this leading to an upcoming album? she might be able to knock Basha off the top spot if she gets the right material.
There was a time when she did Bad Habit live and sounded great. not winded at all

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say Kelly just NEEDS TO DANCE! I’m tired of people still comparing her to Beyonce when there are a lot of “artist” who can’t hold a note to Kelly. She just needs to be more visual and turn it out in her videos and live performances. You’d be surprised how far it would take her.

i am a STAN for kelly rowland, that beautiful sultry chocolate woman. i think this performance would have been alot better if the volume on the music was turned up and maybe had some bass. this song is on constant play on my ipod but damn this performance made the song seem so weak. like the huge climax at the end of the song just seems to blend in with the bridge, WAMP! like ive always said, kelly rowland has potential to be bigger than beyaki (dont smite me queen creole and your army of ass lickers! *cough cough* ratchet *cough cough*) but she just needs to get better exposure and a better publicist, maybe now that shes left matthew knowles she can finally get the light she deserves.

I would give that *perhaps beside* to Randi, because she and one of my favs, Evan, is slacking. I actually hope Jeanine could stay as long as she can. I been more on the guys side, but the girls are doing great, though Kayla rubs me the wrong way. And I want Ade to make it to the finale :)
For Kelly, I thought she sounded out of breath, too. When she gets to “love takes ovaaaa, eya eya!” part, she was hitting some real bum notes. I liked her though and I think going the world dance route is the smartest thing for her and her career. I wish her luck.
I agree about Mariah. I said it before that she has mentioned to liking some more “alternative” affair, and there is nothing wrong with breaking the mold, because her career needs it too.

She sounded a hot mess to me. Kelly’s been in the game way too long to be sounding like this. She’s got a pretty good voice, but she sounds like she needs a vocal coach or something. It sounded like it was gonna fall apart at any moment.
Either way, I’m glad she’s finally finding some success on her own. She definitely deserves it. Bring the key down a half-step or two, and shimmy a lil’ bit mo, and Ms. Kelly could be a force to be reckoned with.

I always preferred Kelly’s look and voice to B, but she has never been a great live performer to me. Really, no one is topping B in that lane right now. But I like Kelly, and I hope she makes it this time.

I thought it was a good performance for her. Kelly has always had that “out of breath” sound, but I can tell she’s been working on controlling it. And at least she doesent sing to a pre recorded track, like some of these higly loved artist, and she still sounds and looks better than majority of these chicks out. The only problem I had was her outfit, and that mop on top of her head. Short hair is better for you Kelly.

^I agree. At least she’s trying to sing live instead of miming to her CD. I don’t know why average singers get praise for producing the average vocals from their album, but good/great singers get bashed for every mistake.

Studio Artist make me so sad :( I love Kelly..but she slays my soul everytime she sang yea yea in that song…flat as 3 day old ginger ale. She just doesn’t deliver live AT ALL.
