    • Kanye Thinks Rihanna Is The Most Important Artist In Music

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 10, 09

      Kanye & Rihanna

      Hmm…really Shagnasty Kanye?

Kanye West says he is shocked by the news that Chris Brown allegedly assaulted girlfriend Rihanna.

“I was completely devastated by the concept of what I heard,” the rapper said Tuesday on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show.

Kayne West – who saw them Saturday at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party in L.A. — said he learned the sad details shortly before he performed “American Boy” with Estelle on Sunday’s Grammys.

“I was completely devastated during the performance,” West said.

He said he knows Rihanna better than Brown, 19, as he went on tour with the 20-year-old singer.

“Rihanna is so important to our culture … to pop music,” said West. “I feel like she is the most important artist in music and has the most potential. Her taste level and her age … she has the potential to be the greatest artist of all time.

“In that sense, I feel like that’s my baby sis,” he said of Rihanna. “I would do any and everything to help her in any situation. (Source)

I think Rihanna is very “Madonna-ish” in terms of her “entertainer” appeal, but as far as “artist” I don’t know how I feel about that.

I think she’s a fairly blank slate that can be adapted to any number of genres, both vocally, stylistically and visually, but other than that…I’m not sure I would call her “important”.

Though, I hate to say it, this Chris Brown drama is going to give her a lot of pity sales, free press and etc. even though it is a terrible thing (if it really happened per se). Details are still emerging on this foolishness…

I think Kanye tends to make some grandiose statements though. Didn’t he say T-Pain was the greatest or something too? LOL, I know one thing that ISN’T the greatest — that Sweet Minty Jesus-awful haircut.

He lost me on the “most important” thing, but I do think she’s important to the culture like he said. She’s a straight up pop star. I can’t think of the last time there was a black female pop star.

      5. February 10, 2009 Stephanie

first he’s saying soulja boy is a great artist, now rihanna?!? what the hell is wrong with Kanye these days? the clothes, the hair..he’s so tangalicious these days.

      6. February 10, 2009 The IPS

@divaTy — OK I can see that definitely. Pop star, yes. That’s what I was alluding to when I mentioned Madonna.

        @Stephanie — Tangalicious? ROFL!

I dont see how Rihanna and Chris Brown got famous in the first place. I been saying this since she came out with with this whole good girl gone bad gimmick Prince+Kelis+Pink= Rihanna. Greatest of all time HELL NO. She didnt get real popular until she copied people styles. I dont get it she cant sing obviously its not a secret. Well I dont think she can and all she do is wear crazy ass clothes and stuff out the 80s and she is being praised. I mean really. She doesnt have that much fire in her to become the greatest. But she will probably unfortunately became a boomerang. Meaning keep coming back with catchy songs. Im sorry that situation happened between them but people are acting like Rihanna was the first woman to be hit by a man or her and Chris Brown to have a public arguement. And for Kanye he needs to seeks professional help seriously.
