    • Janet Jackson Had A Lot Of Hits, Didn’t She?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 16, 09

Janet is dropping another greatest hits set, this time though, it has some new joints that haven’t been released and features of course some of her most recent joints. I guess it has been about what…14 years since Design of a Decade came out, so it’s time. Comes out Nov. 17th. I’mma cop it.

I’m excited that “Scream” will be on there, as well as “The Best Things (In Life Are Free)” — I LOVE that song with Luther! And “All For You” is another fave — they could’ve left off “Call on Me” with Nelly and swapped it for “Son of a Gun” with Missy, but that’s just me. Tracklist after the jump!

      DISC 1
      1. What Have You Done For Me Lately
      2. Nasty
      3. When I Think Of You
      4. Control
      5. Let’s Wait Awhile [Single Remix Version]
      6. The Pleasure Principle
      7. Diamonds – HERB ALPERT with JANET JACKSON
      8. Miss You Much
      9. Rhythm Nation
      10. Escapade
      11. Alright [7" Video Version w/Rap]
      12. Come Back To Me
      13. Black Cat [Video Mix/Short Solo Single Version]
      14. Love Will Never Do (Without You)
      15. The Best Things In Life Are Free- LUTHER VANDROSS
and JANET JACKSON with special guests BBD and RALPH TRESVANT
      16. That’s The Way Love Goes

      DISC 2
      1. If
      2. Again
      3. Because Of Love
      4. Any Time, Any Place
      5. Scream – MICHAEL JACKSON & JANET JACKSON
      6. Runaway
      7. Got ‘Til It’s Gone – Featuring Q-TIP and JONI MITCHELL
      8. Together Again
      9. I Get Lonely – JANET featuring BLACKSTREET
      10. Go Deep
      11. What’s It Gonna Be?! – BUSTA RHYMES featuring JANET
      12. Doesn’t Really Matter
      13. All For You Video [Single Mix]
      14. Someone To Call My Lover
      15. All Nite (Don’t Stop)
      16. Call On Me – JANET with NELLY
      17. Feedback
      18. Make Me

It’s being called “The Best” internationally and “Number Ones” here in the States.

Of course it features the new song “Make Me” which was premiered on her website after the VMA performance/tribute she did to Michael Jackson.

Thirty of the album’s remaining 33 tracks reached No. 1 on either Billboard’s Hot 100, R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Dance/Club Play Songs or Adult Contemporary charts. The album features all 10 of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s and her 16 toppers on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. (Source)

They really did a great job using the alternate versions of many of the album tracks. I’m shocked by the inclusion of “Alright” w/ Heavy D, and “I Get Lonely,” w/ Blackstreet. Whoever put this together did a great job.

However, as a Janet STAN, I would have liked to see the “Pleasure Principle” remix included (it’s the version in the video—goes WAY harder than the album version), and the R. Kelly remix of “Anytime, Anyplace.”

Also, it’s as if Janet wants the world to forget she had two full albums released BEFORE control. Her very first single, “Young Love” (produced by Angela Winbush) and “Don’t Stand Another chance” (produced by Marlon Jackson), were both top 10 R&B hits when they were released. I distinctly remember hearing these songs on the radio in the 80′s, and they did well.

If you REALLY wanna get technical, the inclusion of “Feel It Boy,” and “Luv Me, Luv Me” probably wouldn’t have drawn any complaints from anyone. “Girlfriend, Boyfriend” with Blackstreet is probably the only song officially released with Janet on it that just didn’t deserve inclusion. However, any of the aforementioned tracks would have been a welcome replacement for that garbage she did with Nelly. Even the Hype Williams directed video was a hot mess.

Regardless, I’ll always stan for Ms. Jackson (if you nasty)!

It has “Diamonds”!?! I’m copping this one, too! It cost too damn much to get the Herb Alpert joint that song was on..
