Stanza - ATL (Right-Click & Save) STANZA
Official Site // Twitter
Once again displaying his liquid flow, chalk full of no nonsense punchlines and comedic wordplay, Georgia native Stanza represents “the A” nicely on the soulful anthem “ATL”. He tells the tale of a people who have real love for their city and culture, while exposing outsiders who would merely use it for their own self gain.
It does seem like Atlanta is magically appearing on urreybody’s birth certificate lately, which is a true testament to the cities appeal. However, as Stanza warns “once the fad’s gone, they on the fast track home.”
On the stripped down “A Million Dollars” Stanza wittingly contrasts two mentalities. The song can be summed up in the lines “I used to be a n***a too/until i stopped messin with you and found something to do” Haha. Dope line.
But seriously though, Stanza is a smart rapper who is concerned with the advancement of himself and his people, managing to describe the backward circular logic of the street without being judgmental. So there is no cause to hate on his success. Just “add your piece or…peace.”

Nice try but not quite.
First off, I have to applaud MusicIs MyBusiness for the up to par production and radio ready melody. This song also gets kudos for the rock/hip-hop hook combo. They also used a lot of real instruments in this song, which is always a plus in this current state of electro-hop, or whatever you want to call it. However, the song is not without its faults.
It’s a joint right out of the T.I. playbook (cue courageous anthem track to shut down the haters). At least it feels that way…with the exception of original content from someone of Tip’s caliber.
There are great positive undertones of working hard and coming from “nothing to something” but why is the “something” money/cars/women? *Steps on soap box for just a moment* You mean to tell me that while we couldn’t eat in the hood, that’s what we were all dreaming of?
The song is not as conscious as it wants you to believe, yet not fully gangster/mysogonistic/materialistic as you would expect. It’s just in the middle. Not bad, not great. Just about average.
What are your thoughts?
