OK, FirstGentleman sent this to me and I was a bit flummoxed by it LOL. But I listened again and I like it for the most part. Wasn’t Prince running around Youtube snatching all his stuff down? How did he miss this one? LOL! Check out FirstGentleman’s submission below:
I gotta say I LOVE this cover (even if The IPS didn’t). I think you have to be from L.A.. to appreciate it. Mariachi is inescapable here. The combination of an 80’s electro-funk song done up in traditional Mexican garb is deviously brilliant. There are horns where synthesizers should be and maracas replace the drum machine and this musical mix makes you want a sip on a margarita for happy hour at your local Fiesta Cantina.
Mariachi El Bronx is an indie-punk rock group known as The Bronx. The group was getting bored of doing tradition rock, so when they were asked to contribute a song for Spin magazine’s Purplish Rain tribute album to Prince, they came up with the idea to do a Mariachi arrangement of “I Would Die 4 U”. After the success of it, they released the an English Language Rock/Mariachi album. I hope you enjoy it. Ole!
So what ya’ll think? LOL! I don’t mind listening to this for the most part and I could rewind it and run it back while vacuuming or something. Is it just me?

[...] favorite Prince song is “Die 4 U” and I will take this in any form/genre as previously posted (see the mariachi version I posted a while back). Radio Raheem takes a different spin with this one. Initially he stays true to the original but [...]
