    • Coverage: Karina Pasian Does Beyonce’s “Halo” As Does Jordin Sparks

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 6, 09

Karina Pasian, a young girl who’s first album was released last year on Def Jam and was heralded by the now-deceased exec. Shakir Stewart, was actually nominated for a Grammy for her first album “First Love” this past cycle. She flew under the radar, but I listened to her album a couple of times. She had some great music. Girl is 17, speaks a bunch of languages, is Dominican and has even performed at the White House.

Her cover of “Halo” is pretty decent. At the end especially it gave me chills with her beautiful falsetto. At times, she was a little pitchy in the beginning, but she definitely warmed into the song.

Want to hear another cover? Jordin Sparks did a cover as well during an interview with B. Scott that I can’t get out of my mind. Hers was pretty flawless if you ask me!! FFWD to about 11:56 in this long video to hear the cover after the jump. It was impromptu which made it even more charming.

I can’t stand this song on Beyonce’s album, sorry. She takes all the life out of it to me, but these two covers have me liking the SONG itself, and relegating my dislike to her performance instead of the actual song.

        Karina sounds like Solange…

i neva really got into karina’s album i think shes kinda ovverated jordin was really good and now i see that beyonce is the reason i don’t really like the song wasn’t leona supposed to have that song anyway? i bet her version would’ve been goooooooooooood!

      3. April 6, 2009 Aairy

I wasnt really feeling karina version that much. She has a great voice though.
I saw that Jordin Sparks one awhile back and she merkd that song. I love her voice.

      4. April 6, 2009 mizz_simplicity

Whoo wee Jordin murdered that song. Too fierce. I would love to hear Brandy do a cover of that song though too

      5. April 6, 2009 Amani

I like Karina for sure. I need to check out Jordin doing this. She needs more stuff like this and less poppy stuff.

      6. April 6, 2009 biawon

Beyonce kilt that song. No need for other versions to verify it for me. Jordin did good too.

Karina is probably a great singer but i didn’t think that she “did” this song.

      7. April 6, 2009 Stefkes

I like Karina’s delivery, I don’t really approve of the pianist’s take on the song. There’s a beautiful piano melody on the original song already, no need to switch it up.
        Anyway, Karina +1.

And I already heard the version of Jordin Sparks, which was nice but it kinda misses the power that Beyoncé put in it.

I can’t wait to hear Beyoncé sang this song during her tourstop in Holland, 2nd and 3rd of May

Both of these young ladies have beautiful voices (especially Jordin) but Bey killed that song. Killed it. It’s dead and nobody needs to try to revive it. Loved it from the first day I heard it. Its a beautiful song.
