    • Asher Roth Slipped A Fell In Some Milk!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 23, 09

      Asher Roth Tweets

Angel @ CL capped these tweets by Asher Roth as he slipped in a joke in ill-taste (“hanging out with nappy headed hoes”). Some folks think it was just a joke; others thought it was VERY racist and should never had been uttered.

Asher Roth is the newest white rapper to hit the mainstream and has garnered a lot of comparisons to Eminem, because of his skin tone and his tone of voice. I’m not really a fan, but if you hit Google you can find plenty of sites about him!

What do ya’ll think? I’m sure it was innocent, but social media and web 2.0 provide an immediate forum for artists to reach fans. The Bible says “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”…has he messed up his budding career?

Edit: @Gyant from Gyant Unplugged says that Asher’s Twitter was hacked…hmmm…PR spin or the truth?!

Is it news that this kid is an idiot?

Anyways, it’s pretty funny how obviously canned that last message was — he DEFINITELY got a call from his agent and/or publicist and told EXACTLY how to apologize.

      2. April 23, 2009 ASmith

Asher got too comfortable and it showed just now. How was that funny? I’m SURE he didn’t mean it to be offensive, but it was.

He pissed the nigras off, but the nigras wasn’t feelin’ him anyway. It was the white people. He’ll be aight. Sadly… cause I surely don’t get it…

      3. April 23, 2009 divaTy

Either it was a “joke” or he was hacked, it can’t be both! What, did the hacker apologize? Come on now.

      4. April 23, 2009 melo

I would’ve bought the ‘hacker’ story had the tweet not come from twitterberry like the rest of them…lol

      5. April 23, 2009 Daniel

I do not see what the big deal is here. many black guys call black girls things like nappy headed hoes, often worse things. he was just quoting don imus because he was in rutgers. he OBVIOUSLY was not trying to be racist or derogatory.

      6. April 23, 2009 xXthemanXx

i agree with daniel. asher roth is just a dumb college kid who hangs out with his friends, gets high, and says dumb jokes like that. if you listen to his music, which more people should listen to instead of his stupid twitter account, you would find out that he is not racist at all. he is anti-racism and in alot of his songs he talks about people should be less racist. so if this comment gets blown out of proportion i blame it on everyone who is pulling the race card, and i may have lost faith in our society

      7. April 23, 2009 wtf

Not really a fan of this cat but he was obviously jokin and then think about this, if a black guy woulda said the same shit but in a way that suggested she was talkin about a blonde white chick no one would have fuckin said shit. Its ridiculous. Fuckin double standards.

      8. April 23, 2009 divaTy

        “Not really a fan.” Sure.

      9. April 24, 2009 Sleaze

uh..that doesn’t make the statement less offensive. the fact that he would bring it up is very racist. more white privilege huh?

      10. April 24, 2009 DJ Multiple Sex Partners

$1000 says the three comments up there are from Universal Motown interns and you’ll find the exact same drivel, verbatim, at dozens of other blogs that covered this.

      11. April 24, 2009 ASmith

        I’m with DJ on this.

You gotta be kidding me. Ya’ll are too obvious “I don’t see waht the big deal is… black guys do the same thing…”

Now I’m offended that ya’ll think we’re that dumb. AND that that’s a valid argument. Lots of black guys shoot each other, too, when ya’ll gon’ start doing that dumb shit?

I can’t believe ya’ll took it there. Whoever directed you to this site and all the others where you are making these same lame ass comments, PLEASE go kick them and let them know that’s from me.

Ok. Let me go before I get as obscenely absurd as these idiots…

      12. April 24, 2009 trueb1tch

i am married to a brother & i wold NEVER use a term like that. i don’t believe that eminem, who has proven his worth would ever utter a racist remark such as that. i don’t give a damn who you are, it’s not something that should ever come out of a white persons mouth. it’s just wrong

      13. April 24, 2009 iceman

seriously??? c’mon now he was fuckin joking! u kno damn well everyone was joking about this after the sensitivity wore off. people are jumping on it because he’s white! when don imus did it it was fucked up and out of context but he deserved what he got, asher roth referencing it in a joke on his twitter was just a joke. stop being sensitive the guy was fuckin joking.

      14. April 24, 2009 trueb1tch

i stand by my original comment. it was in poor taste & never should have came out of his mouth.
okay, so he’s young & was joking, maybe he’ll learn from this & won’t repeat the same mistake.

      15. April 24, 2009 effdapolice

Now I’m offended that ya’ll think we’re that dumb. AND that that’s a valid argument. Lots of black guys shoot each other, too, when ya’ll gon’ start doing that dumb shit?

white guys shoot eachother too. you just made a racist comment towards black guys saying that only they shoot eachother. man, i didn’t think y’all were that dumb before. but now you’re trying to call that guy racist when your comment was way worse than his. wow. am i losing my mind or is the race card really still being pulled by saying “more privelages for whites”? that is possibly the dumbest statement i’ve heard in a long time. i can’t think of any more privelages whites have over blacks. black people can say the horrifying “N-word”, with their minority status, they get into more colleges, i have seen meetings for “black men only”. if there was ever a meeting for “white men only” it would be accused of being a klan meeting. black people are not kept down by anything anymore so quit accusing every single white person of claiming to be superior. the president of the united states of america is a black man. shut up lady.

      16. April 24, 2009 maximus

WOW…his street team is really heated on this site getting upset that this has some traction. You guys are wrong…it’s the same intern googling sites talking about it and making a few different names and sayin “it’s no big deal” “he was just kidding” “it was just a joke (you) people are just too sensitive”.

They are mad because they joke about the culture way worse than this in private, and the 1 that wasn’t that bad makes it out via him or God working thru him to enlighten the people about what they really are about. A bunch of leaches using originally black culture to get rich. They made a Slim Shady for the suburb kids to eat it up. He doesn’t respect the culture like Eminem did tho. He just sees that they can take it to the white kids and give them the culture and bypass even dealing with any “nappy headed hoes”

      17. April 25, 2009 whitey

black people are crazy. they look for every opportunity to make whitey look like the bad guy. every bad thing that happens to them is white people’s fault. i’m not saying that every black person is like this, but it seems like all of them commenting here are, and the majority i deal with in the real world are. i have black friends that call eachother “nigga” and they don’t even care if i say it. they know i’m not being racist. the race card is getting old YOU people. not every white person is racist, and not every black person is dumb as shit. get over yourselves. you are just trying to make white people look worse because you want someone to blame for everything in your life and you know we aren’t the bad guy. shut the hell up really. the president is an african american.

      18. April 25, 2009 trueb1tch

this comment is to whitey: you are an ignorant
M.F. it’s s.o.b.’s such as yourself that make our race (caucasian) look bad. you need to bring yourself back to the real world. you refer to the “race card” you need to realize that discrimination is real, & it’s dumb mother f**kers like you who keep it alive. crawl back into your hole & stay there. a**hole.

      19. April 25, 2009 trueb1tch

to maximus: i agree with you.

      20. April 26, 2009 tygrlilie

What the kid said was probably innocent and just plain dumb. Can a 24 year old from middle-class Pennsylvania have any concept of the historical significance of terms like “nappy-headed ho”? Not really. He needs to get more educated about the cultural milieu he’s trying to infiltrate.

      21. April 26, 2009 burban

historical significance of the term “nappy headed ho”?? oh yeah that’s a real historical phrase. i can understand the n word’s historical significance, but nappy headed ho? i don’t think so. black people have nappy hair, and alot of guys call girls “ho’s” if a black guy calls a white girl a cracka ass ho are white people allowed to go ape shit?

      22. April 27, 2009 tygrlilie

“Cracka ass ho” is just as offensive, so yeah, people can get upset. And what do you know about historical significance? Are you black? Are you a woman? I think not. Also I didn’t say anything about whether or not people should go ape shit. I said what he said was dumb and said why I thought he said it. You are assigning other people’s thoughts and reactions to me.

      23. April 27, 2009 trueb1tch

while i am not an african american woman, & cannot determine whether or not this phrase is offensive when uttered by a caucasin, i think good old fashioned common sense tells me that it should not be. hopefully this little boy will learn from this & be more sensitive in the future

      24. May 5, 2009 tygrlilie

I’ve since read some more stuff about this Roth character… he’s a douchebag of the highest order. After hearing his views on hip hop, black culture and black people in general, I think he knew a lot better than I first suspected about what he was saying. He’s an ass and I hope his wackness has curtailed his allotted 15 minutes.

      25. July 15, 2009 egg

Trueb1tch, u can’t be for real? U can’t only tell a ‘white guy’ that he shouldn’t say “nappy headed hoe”, black males shouldn’t be using that phrase either. I think it’s more derogatory to women in general, not just black females. Fight the fight right!
