First, I’m gonna say that I was just thinking about not posting anymore Alicia Keys live performances, because they are all starting to run together and I’m getting slightly tired of watching/listening to them LOL.
However, she did a 4 song medley on BET’s 106 & Park yesterday (about 18 minutes), and someone took the time to put them all together for us, and it’s post worthy because there is a new song (“Un-thinkable”) sprinkled in amongst some other opportunities to point out some things…after the jump.
First off was “No One”, which was…oooh, all over the place vocally. Alicia sounds tired though, and you know, I’m willing to give her some slack because she is on the promo trail and has been singing everywhere and that takes a toll. By the way, this is all on top of her usual propensity for flat notes and hollering, so listen at your own risk. She cracked a couple of times on this joint, but tried to do some nice things and work around her hoarseness. BUT all this girl does is belt, her voice gonna be shot by the end of the week if not sooner…
Next was “Empire State of Mind (Part II)” and that was pretty decent.
Then she performed a new song, finally. “Un-thinkable”, the song from her album that features Drake on vocals. “Un-thinkable” is nice and is one of the better, more memorable songs from her album. Alicia worked her way through this one, and left the heavy lifting to the background singers, but this joint is pretty dope and if she was in better vocal shape, it might be compelling live performance stuff.
Lastly was “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”, but one might call it “Try Singing With A Hoarse Voice” LOL. If you are a singer, you can see Alicia’s body movements and her trying to get on top of them notes. Work it out. I’m still just saying, if she is such a fantabulous piano player, why can’t she transpose all her songs a half step or two to make them a bit easier to sing and easier sounding on our ears?!
I don’t what Terrence was doing at the end…and LOL @ Rocsi saying “She was singing to ME!” *seod*
