So, in a fit of boredom and debate on Twitter about Trey Songz’ latest musical offering, I decided to review the album. Via Twitter. People seemed to be liking, and first listen I wasn’t impressed. Took another listen and formulated some more cohesive thoughts. I decided to just post the tweets as I went track-by-track to fit the 140 characters or less format of Twitter.
Peep my review after the jump and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments!
Trey Songz/”Panty Dropper (Intro)”: Kicks off the sexual braggadocio I’m sure will dominate the album. Decent intro though.about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Neighbors Know My Name”: Lyrically, interesting. Water drop effect is tired. Trey’s showcases his falsetto and range. Thumbs up.about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”I Invented Sex”: Cliched, more braggadocio. Tired subject Sings on auto-pilot. Tuned this out quickly. Drake Meh. VIBRATO ugh!about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”I Need A Girl”: Track feels phoned in. Too laid back. “Radio single”. “The softer side of Trey”. Paint the dots R&B. Pass.about 1 hour ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”One Love”: Love the swing of this track. Lyrically dense/verbose. Hook’s/harmonies good. Song has depth which he lacks. B+.43 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Does He Do It”: Sounds like ATL snap meets Jeezy drums meets boring hook. Short song. Should have stayed a demo track. Wamp.36 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Say Ahh”: Club track. Reverting to “hip-hop” braggadocio. Empty subject matter. Fab phones his verse in from a tour bus. C-.32 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”LOL :)”: END.OF.THE.WORLD. Though it is catchy track-wise. But COME ON.31 minutes ago from TweetDeck
This album is TOO LONG. Like, seriously.30 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Ready to Make Luv”: Nah unh falsetto fail, I’ll pass. Nice gateway/continuity idea though.29 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Jupiter Love”: Everyone wants to be an alien. Tired cliche about “good love”. Nice track could play in bkgd on a mixtape. B-.27 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Be Where U Are”: Varying use of time signatures is diff, but the hook degenerates into just too much. VIBRATO! Nope! Pass.25 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Successful”: Took out Kanye’s verse to add him and then it “features” Drake? FAIL. Good song though. Only 1 I really like. A-.24 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Black Roses”: His voice is annoying on this faux “rock” track. VIBRATO. Instrumentation is overpowering as well. Int. harmonies.22 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Love Lost”: Songs become less interesting as you progress. MJ sounding track, prod./bkgd. wise. Weepy? Pass.19 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Hollalude”: LOL @ title. Is that they Aaliyah “One in a Million” sound efx? His stuff is very verbose at times.18 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Holla If Ya Need Me”: Cont. of prev. track. Sounds 90′s-ish prod. wise. I like this joint. Sounds lush? Would jam again. B+.15 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Trey Songz/”Yo Side of the Bed”: Feels very epic/”Purple Rain”-ish. Could have done more w/ hook. Very pop? Honest sounding. Cool vox. A-.11 minutes ago from TweetDeck
Thus ends my review of Trey Songz’ “Ready”. “Trey Day” was better. Overall, his voice + lack of really strong songs make it lack + drone on.10 minutes ago from TweetDeck

I barely know who he is, and after listening to the music, i can understand why. I’m too old for this mess they call music today. Drake had the nerve to say he’s the best R & b artist of this generation. I may be bias since I could care less about Drake, but what the hell is he smoking. Trey isn’t in the same league as Cassie let alone the R & B greats. Hell, I at least knew who Cassie was. I needed folks to point out Trey.

ok…lets be serious. this nigga trey is that deal. he is more talented than usher. has better vocal ability then usher. writes his own shit (unlike usher). and has the ability to explore many different subject matters within an album (unlike usher). this album is better than confessions. but obviously b/c trey is not a main stream media infulenced industry puppet he’s not gonna get as much love. BUT! if y’all would open up your minds and realize that he is doin’ his thing without becoming a cliche ass R&B nigga and being creative and witty and clever then you’ll realize that this nigga is the real deal

ummm Money…I like Trey too (I mean he aight ~ lol :) but are you his publicist or something? And when did Usher become the standard for new R&B artist because Usher hasn’t made me moist since Confessions. Just wondering? Anyway, Trey is good but too much sexual bravado. After listening to one of his songs I just walk away feeling like he is more in love with himself than I could ever be. Thank you and goodnight.

Can you guys please stop hating on Trey Songz. As far as I’m concerned his CD is the hottest r&b CD that has come out this year. Usher is not that dude anymore and maybe Trey is or he’s pretty damn close.

better than usher!?! stop it. Trey is very cliche’ but there’s a tiny part of me that likes him. His first cd was good and his second was ok. ill give this one a try. Trey is becoming that dude by default.
