    • “A Diva Returns” — Whitney Houston Promo Video Does The Most

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 12, 09

OK I was dead at this line:

“If the voice is a musical instruments, hers is a Stradivarius.” – Time Magazine

Sure, a warped one that has been through a dishwasher, left in the sun and then put the wood chipper! I can’t!

I love Whitney “Nippy” as much as the next person and she’s made some CLASSIC songs. But I’m not going to be able to cosign this album until I hear some clips. September 1st. I’m not really looking forward to it though.

Her voice is not THAT bad… you make it sound as if she’s Rihanna or somebody now…

      2. June 12, 2009 Ratchet

Having said that, I tried to make it through this video without laughing and failed MISERABLY. That there is the PINNACLE of ostentatiousness!

      3. June 12, 2009 ASmith

        Uhh… WHY?

Superstars, true superstars, don’t need to be reintroduced.

Whitney Houston is, truly, a superstar; she doesn’t need all this and this makes her look cheesy and makes me doubtful. If her voice is truly back to what we know and love then that’s all we need.

I hope she doesn’t come with more of this “let’s be hip” bull…. gimme some good ol’ fashioned Whit-nay Houston… please and THANKS.

      4. June 12, 2009 ugh

LOL that so random, a stradivarius?!

this video was oozing cheese from all its nooks and crannies with all the puns incorporating all the song titles.

actions speak louder than words, and from hearing that akon joint..im on the fence.

      5. June 12, 2009 R&B Guru

Wow. I’m hearing you on this one. While I love Whitney, this video hypes her return up like it’s the second coming of Christ. I mean really, all those text blurbs were a little over the top. You shouldn’t have to convince me to want Whitney back, unless it’s with some new solid songs.

      6. June 12, 2009 Anthony

I think it has been a very long time since we last seen whitney in the spot light for something postive so I see nothing wrong going a little over top to promote her new album. But it really funny how people are so easily to critize, It look like it do not matter what Whitney do there always someone standing the corner ready to put down a woman who is trying to rebuild her life.

      7. June 12, 2009 C.

I want Whitney to come out with some GREAT – not decent, not solid i’m tombout i-dont-any-other-artist-on-rotation GREAT songs if she want to be on top again. but until then, I’ll keep watchin Debra Wilson’s “Whitney Houston” in the mean time.

        Left Earth’s soil @

“…Sure, a warped one that has been through a dishwasher, left in the sun and then put the wood chipper…”

        and

“…That there is the PINNACLE of ostentatiousness…”

        as well as

“…this video was oozing cheese from all its nooks and crannies with all the puns incorporating all the song titles…”

Anthony, nobody’s trying to knock her, but that commercial was like having a bowl of chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, chocolate sprinkles, with a glass of chocolate milk and a chocolate chip cookie on the side. I don’t care how much you like chocolate, you’re probably gonna throw up.

      9. June 14, 2009 Evil Kinegro

As a violinist/violist, that Stradivarius quote pisses me off.
        They need to stop playing.
        Now let’s hear the CD!

      10. June 14, 2009 Toni

If Whitney’s voice is back the way it used to be or even perhaps half of what it use to be then all Ms Nippy has to do is walk out on stage. The intro was overdone, and, yes, even cheesy. All this woman needs is the spotlight and a mic. I wish her all the best.

      11. June 14, 2009 kbelov

i hope they dont try to bring her back as the super pop princess that she used to be…those days are dead…

      12. June 17, 2009 fatblkboy

WOW…i was all ready to be offended by the post and THEN…i watched the video. MESS! i want Whitney to do well but this video just made me have seconds thoughts…

*puts 13.98 for cd back into wallet*

      13. August 7, 2009 Nurse Deb

This is all marketing hype of how good she USED to be…the proof is in the pudding…. I saw Whitney in Denver years ago when she was at the top of her game….she’s a blessing from God above to the musical world and I am thrilled she’s back after getting rid of the trash in her life. I wish her all the best. Women must reclaim their lives after the fall….go WHITNEY!!!
