The-Dream has continued on his rant about lack of Grammy nominations, first tweeting about it and now giving more interviews. He was nominated for his work on other people’s albums but his own two albums were overlooked. I, personally, don’t have a problem with this. While he may be talented in his ability to occasionally write and vocal produce a hit, he’s had his share of songs that have fallen flat. And his own lack of vocal prowess is probably the main thing that would prevent him from breaking through as a solo artist.
BET has crowned him a “Rising Icon” (see video above), Def Jam has given him and executive role and he’s made some smash hits over the past couple of years. However, how much longevity does his music REALLY have? He aspires to be Prince-like in his music, but will he have nearly as much history and staying power in say, 20 years?
What do you think? Was The-Dream robbed? Am I a “hater” as people like to say? Do you really sit and listen to his albums outside of a few singles? Did you buy Electrick Red’s album (which I felt was a group of girls put together with a deep-voiced lead, effectively singing all the songs The-Dream wrote but can’t sing himself)? Share your thoughts?

SMH Baby Gap just needs to SIT DOWN. Yes he’s a good songwriter and and producer…for OTHER artists. I just don’t think he’s cut out to do his own material let alone be nominated for a grammy. His album had at most, about 3 good songs..smh he needs to stfu

Yes he has a couple of songs that I have liked. But Ummm…. besides that.. I think he sux, his music has no longevity, and he wasn’t shafted by the Grammys. They did something right by not nominating his whackness. And even saying his name in the same breath as Prince is a total disgrace to the Purple One!!

His rant is proof that “good music” has gone away.
People think they’re supposed to be rewarded for sales. That’s what that plaque is for. You win awards for quality and for once, the Grammy’s snobbish tendencies are helping out here.
The Dream needs someone to sat him down and tell him he is not amazing. He’s aight and right now “aight” sells records.

He fails. He can’t write all that well and definitely can’t sing. His only flair is producing and he’s getting too comfortable there (see “Louboutins”).
FAIL.
