    • Jesse Boykins III Is Full Of Love And Has A Bad Case of “Itis” In New Vid

Written by The IPS in Videos on Dec 31, 09

This new Jesse Boykins III song/video is like, Dwele meets Jill Scott’s “Do You Remember Me” and with a dash of D’ Angelo. Wow, I am liking this a lot.

The only part I took issue with was when he was rolling around on the floor with his church clothes on LOL, that was kind of…random.

His voice is so cool and original. Can’t think of any other young R&B cats that sound like this right now. Some of his riffs are real nice but sit well in the music. I’m going to go have to get his The Beauty Created album, which has been in stores for a minute.

What ya’ll think of this video? The director Atif Ateeq did a great job capturing the feel of the song as well as the interpretation that matched.

      Sade’s Sizzle Reel + Tracklist

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 30, 09

Remember Whitney Houston’s sizzle reel that came out earlier this year? Well Sade’s is a little more subtle and a bit more artistic but nontheless, I am still excited about Soldier of Love dropping February next year. Watching this reel made me want to go pull out all my Sade CD’s!

Tracklist + a poll about your favorite Sade album after the jump!

      Pardon Our Dust…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 29, 09

If you haven’t noticed, things may look different around here. We are getting a fresh redesign and look for the new year (courtesy of our man Zillz!) and as a result, things may look awry for a few days. Utilizing this limbo time between the Christmas holiday and the New Year to do some backend and frontend clean up!

I’m still on vacation but I’m posting here and there so stay tuned cause you know I am always working to make things better. Hope you like!

Classic Flashback: Brownstone – “I Can’t Tell You Why”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Dec 29, 09

Brownstone were vocally one of my favorite groups from the 90′s. I promise you these ladies sung down the clouds and turned them into fog! Their cover of The Eagles’ “I Can’t Tell You Why” just jumped in my mind last night and hasn’t left since. I had to hear it today and post it for ya’ll just in case you’d never experienced it.

They were signed to MJJ, which was Michael Jackson’s vanity label, back in the day. I wonder if they ever met him?

I have every Brownstone CD and if you are ever looking for some great SANGING, then you need to get into their music. Rumors and videos of a reunion swirled around for a hot minute, as well as some one off shows, but I wonder what happened to that!??

Coverage: Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U”, Like You’ve Never Heard It Before

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 28, 09

OK, FirstGentleman sent this to me and I was a bit flummoxed by it LOL. But I listened again and I like it for the most part. Wasn’t Prince running around Youtube snatching all his stuff down? How did he miss this one? LOL! Check out FirstGentleman’s submission below:

I gotta say I LOVE this cover (even if The IPS didn’t). I think you have to be from L.A.. to appreciate it. Mariachi is inescapable here. The combination of an 80’s electro-funk song done up in traditional Mexican garb is deviously brilliant. There are horns where synthesizers should be and maracas replace the drum machine and this musical mix makes you want a sip on a margarita for happy hour at your local Fiesta Cantina.

Mariachi El Bronx is an indie-punk rock group known as The Bronx.  The group was getting bored of doing tradition rock, so when they were asked to contribute a song for Spin magazine’s Purplish Rain tribute album to Prince, they came up with the idea to do a Mariachi arrangement of “I Would Die 4 U”. After the success of it, they released the an English Language Rock/Mariachi album. I hope you enjoy it. Ole!

So what ya’ll think? LOL! I don’t mind listening to this for the most part and I could rewind it and run it back while vacuuming or something. Is it just me?

Susan Boyle Never “Dreamed” She’d Be This Successful!

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Dec 28, 09

      Susan Boyle – I Dreamed A Dream
      ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

      Album review by FirstGentleman

If you know me, you know I love a good underdog. Kelly Rowland, J.C. Chasez, Dawn Robinson and now I can add Susan Boyle to the list. Susan Boyle was an internet sensation here in the States. I logged on to see a dumpy, Ms. Doubtfire knock off audition for Britain’s Got Talent and blow the judges away. They’ve taken some tweezers to her caterpillar eyebrows, fried dyed and laid to the side that hair and gave her some foundation and NOW she’s the next big thing since Celine Dion.

Classic Flashback: Chante’ Moore – “Love’s Taken Over”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Dec 26, 09

Chante’ Moore is one of my favorite female singers, and she flies under the radar way too much. I even liked her and Kenny Lattimore’s 2 duet records that they put out. Her solo album Love The Woman that came out in 2008 wasn’t that great if memory serves correctly. I’m not even sure if I remember listening to it, it was that forgettable.

“Love’s Taken Over” was one of Chante’s biggest hits from her 1992 album Precious and stayed on the charts for a long time, and has been covered by many a smooth jazz artist LOL. It just has that kind of vibe and is definitely one of the chillest songs that you’ll ever hear.

Some Old & Some New With Mary J. Blige’s “Words & Music”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 26, 09

Mary J. Blige sounded pretty decent with her hallmark off-moments during her BET special that aired earlier this week “Words & Music”. She sung some new songs including her latest single “I Am” and even “I’m Going Down”. This new material pales in comparison but, you know, woman trying to stay relevant and keep up with the youngin’s in this economy and whatnot.

      I love her background singers!

I reviewed the album previously if you missed it and feel free to share your thoughts with the rest of us about this performance below.

New Music From J*DaVeY, Missy Elliott & Nicole S. W/ Pharrell

J*DaVeY – Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes
      Download + Listen Here

I love this! It’s just funky and electro and it has attitude and it’s free. Merry Crimmuh! I’ve posted a couple of songs from this “mistape” (mistake + mixtape = mistape) and I tell you, I haven’t stopped listening to it since it dropped yesterday. My favorite joint is “Permission” with it’s Prince-esque/Funk-ish vibe and simple straight-ahead jam sensibility. Also good is “Crawl All Over”. Please download this ASAP!
