    • At A Loss For Words With This One But It’s “The Sh*t” Indeed

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 30, 09

ROFL, yo, I got my life today with this one. Deep belly laughs that just awoke my itis-ed soul from the Thanksgiving slumber early this morning. Get your life too! I have no idea who this is, but apparently he won RuPaul’s reality show? BeBe Zahara Bennett?

Well, he’s doing his own music thing with this video for his song “I’m The Sh*t” and let me tell you, LOL, I don’t know what to do. The song itself is randomly catchy in the hook but really, all it is saying is “I’m the sh*t”. Jennifer Lopez and him should trade, yes?

OK please, just watch this LOL, I got nothing else to say. Did anyone else watch that RuPaul show? I don’t normally do drag queens but this right here had me DYING! This one is for the kids of Tha Feedback LOL.

Classic Flashback: Gap Band – “Early In The Morning”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Nov 30, 09

Don’t call it a comeback! Uncle Charlie been here for years! He just didn’t have Stevie Wonder braids. LOL.

Ginuwine performed this song on the Soul Train Awards last night during the Soul Train Legends Charlie Wilson tribute performance, and it made me remember how many cuts Charlie Wilson and Gap Band had. I figured a lot of folks might not be familiar with this one, especially with Ginuwine sounding bad because of the sound and because it was a little low for him to try and sing.

Please check the fashions!!! Isn’t that what Bootsy Collins had on last night!? I cannot ROFL!

And I swear ya’ll, please tell that Anthony Hamilton doesn’t look related to these folks!? Look! Enjoy LOL.

Beyonce + Ciara + Motel 6 = Happy Monday Morning!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 30, 09

Please blame @jervae on Twitter for this ROFL! OMG, I cannot!!!! I died 20x over just reading the description!

“Backed by 2 dancers and a Walkman hooked up to computer speakers, Ciara delivered extraordinarily off-key performances of all 2 of her #1 Billboard-topping singles “Goodies” and “Promise” and entertained the crowd with an hour-long medley of her biggest Billboard-bottoming singles.”

Someone clearly has too much time on their hands and I PROMISE you it ain’t me. But this right here…*logs off life for 2.33 minutes*

2009 Soul Train Awards: A Little Off Track OR A Total Trainwreck?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 30, 09

After a hiatus, the Soul Train Awards are back with a new owner and broadcast partner, BET’s “new” network, Centric. Which is basically BETJ w/ rebranding. The Soul Train Awards had begun a slow decline into obscurity a couple of years ago, finally culminating in cancellation. However, BET is determined to breathe new life into the show and heritage, and they did their best to try and do that Sunday night.

Overall, I was just waiting for Chaka Khan. While I waited, I had to deal with a lot of vocal shenanigans and faux affection from show hosts Taraji P. Henson and Terrance Howard. Their skits were largely unfunny and just became a bit of a bore as the night went along. But other than that, the too-tightly edited show was MARRED with largely bad audio, tepid sets and unbearable writing. The only saviors were the few music performances that shined.

Hit the jump for my live-blogged recap of the show! Of course, you can always follow me on Twitter to catch the off the cuff reactions as they come quick and fast…you know this is gonna be long but FUNNY if I say so myself. That’s how we roll! Enjoy and share your thoughts and comments in the comments!

The Future “Stars” of Motown Toast The “Past” Stars In This Live Medley

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews on Nov 29, 09

During the Thanksgiving game of the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers, there was a live show during halftime that featured the “future” stars of Motown Records doing a medley of the “past” stars of Motown’s hits.

Well, I can say this with some certainty that the future is definitely not looking bright! LOL.

Save for Melanie Fiona and Kem placing further behind that, there wasn’t much to be impressed with. The Vita Chambers child really is just starting with a disservice to her name, because she’s nothing original. Forever The Sickest Kids, the ROCK band, sounded the best in my opinion. Melanie saved herself with that “Dancing In The Streets” performance, cause she hit the right notes all the way through!

But overall…especially with all the Motown that I’ve been listening to since MJ died…wowzers. No wonders folks having problem selling records, no one is really DYNAMIC and ENGAGING anymore if you ask me. The songs stand the test of time, but 9 times out of 10, the singers don’t.

Was anyone there? Did you see this live? Let me know. I’mma give this halftime show a 6 out of 10 LOL.

Rihanna Playing “Russian Roulette” With Her Record Sales & Fan’s Patience Still

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 29, 09

I feel like everytime I hear Rihanna sing this song I live, I wish it wasn’t her song and that someone like Keri Hilson or Teairra Mari would do a Youtube cover version of it that I can then replace the original with in my mind. Seriously, I just think this song isn’t for her right now, because of its lyrics and because of the melody and the chops that need to be pulled off to sing it.

PLUS, this song is so low ANYWAY, the fact that she starts having trouble reaching them notes at around the 2:30 mark and starts to slide downhill vocally just says volumes about her vocal range.

However, all that being said, for HER at least, this was a pretty decent performance. She gave me a lil’ something on the stage and it was almost very entertaining. I heard though sadly that she’s not only flopping here but also flopping in the UK. How dreadful! Didn’t her worldwide live concert broadcast out of the UK?

Explore Music: 30 Seconds to Mars Are Caught Up In Kanye’s “Hurricane”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews on Nov 29, 09

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

30 Seconds to Mars – “Hurricane” Feat. Kanye West [Download + Listen]

Kanye West channeled some of his leftover “808’s & Heartbreaks” angst into a tightly wound emotional 16 bars for rock/alternative group 30 Seconds to Mars, which is fronted by sometimes actor Jared Leto. 30 Seconds to Mars have been successful over the past years, but their new album This Is War, which is out December 8th on EMI, after the band and the label had much animosity.

This collabo came about a while ago and it’s good to see that it actually happened. Kanye translates to other genres much better than Timbaland (who likes to hop genres production-wise) though I don’t think Kanye produced this joint; he just made a guest appearance. However, they fit very nicely together. Shows you how far ahead of his time Kanye was with “808’s…”.

What do you think of this song? If you like it, check out some of 30STM’s other music, I have a couple of their records, it’s not too shabby if you find the right songs…

Novel’s “Internet Novelties” Need A Bigger Audience In Our Opinion

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 28, 09

Novel is a beast! That beat is on some like, West Coast R&B soulful ish, I love that. I was lamenting today on Twitter how Ryan Leslie stays making (decent) middle-of-the-road R&B music that is pleasant but lacks punch and dynamics. Novel makes these great soundscapes and his musical palette is way more diverse and across the board good yet he’s stuck releasing internet mixtapes and EP’s from labels playing games. Sure, there may be other things going on behind the scenes, but dude is genuinely talented and I am just over the music biz!

Heres Internet Novelties #5 the “Joell Ortiz & Novel Mixtape addition”. Its the first inside look & preview of the new Mixtape coming soon. Joell Ortiz & Novel present a mix blend of Soul & Hiphop together. This is just the first half of the video, the making of the production. The Second half will continue with Joell’s in the studio also dropping soon.

Check out Novel’s tweetback today to me. Humble dude. LOL.

Beyonce’s “Special” Was No More Than An Advertisement + Live DVD Review

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews on Nov 28, 09

You know, I watched this with the rest of America, and while overall I’m a fan, I felt this was unnecessary. Did we really learn anything new? Was there anything super exclusive or exciting about this special? I feel like no. It was basically an advertisement for her latest DVD, which our very own Stefkes wrote a review on (see after the jump).

I think we are all collectively starting to get to that place again where we feel like Beyonce’ needs to go take a break and get off of our radars. However, with reports of her working on or being finished with a new album that will come out next year, we may not get that wish for Christmas. Check out this hilarious comedy clip too of Beyonce’ and Rihanna in “Celebrity Therapy” as well before you hit the jump. Homegirl sounds JUST like Beyonce’!

Scraps From Timbaland’s Bassment Floor Via A New Video & Song

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews, Videos on Nov 28, 09

Much like his album is sounding like a bunch of scraps and leftovers from juts whatever he felt like putting together so far…

The above video is the “International” version of his video “Morning After Dark” which I posted previously. It’s basically the same wack video just with a verse/appearance sung by Nelly Furtado, and it’s a condensed version of the previous video as well. I STILL don’t understand why he messed up this video like that. However, he already has a video in the can for his song with Drake called “Say Something”, which really sounds like Common’s “Punch Drunk Love” to me…

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

A new song also leaked called “The One I Love” with Keri Hilson, Chris Brown and rapper D.O.E. Not really caring about this one either — I just really feel like Timbo is disconnected or on some other planet and is not really caring what we his listeners think. Plus it’s just kinda wack, and I think I just said a couple posts ago how maybe him & Keri need to get back together. Well, Keri’s a star in her own right and I think she’s giving Timbo her leftovers too. Wamp. Chris Brown won’t be on the final version either because of “timing”. Sure.
