    • Classic Flashback: Jordan Knight – “Give It To You”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Oct 30, 09

This song was my JAM! My twitter friends reminded me of it this morning — shouts to FirstGentleman and Chrisstyle!

Did you know that Robin Thicke co-wrote and produced most of this album and this song as well. Light years and light years beyond where everyone else was at the time. The song was kinda dirty too LOL.

The NKOTB should have gotten Robin again for that last album they put out LOL…

New Music: Alicia Keys – “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 29, 09

Alicia Keys – “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” [Listen + Download]

Alicia Keys’ latest single that is going to be released next has leaked thanks to the good folks over at UHTN and it’s called “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” and it’s produced by Jeff Bhasker, who’s done work with Kanye, Jay, John Legend and Goapele.

This song has a decidedly 80’s feel to it — sounds like a Bangles-meets-Pat Benatar-meets-Prince meets-Bryan Adams feel to it. Seems like Alicia is moving away from the Motown-soul channeling she was doing last album to a more pop crossover feel this time around…

I’m still trying to find my soul after someone on here called her “Snorelicia” though, OH GOD, I was done! This song is nice though, and it definitely feels like Alicia is trying to build up her adult contemporary chops. Time will tell.

Do you think her sales are going to be affected to any measurable amount from the black people that know of the drama with her and Swizz Beatz and Mashonda?

What Do We Think About The Kickdrums’ “Things Work Out”?

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Oct 29, 09

Another excellent Rik Cordero video for an awesome song written and performed by The Kickdrums (official site), an indie rock group with dashes of hip-hop and electro influences that are getting a lot of love from the hip-hop world.

The video itself is pretty self-explanatory, exploring the “what if’s” that we all ponder over on a daily basis and also reminds me of those movies/fantasy shows where one thing supposedly affects many others that you may not be aware of. The butterfly effect and all that.

I like this song and the album it is taken from is also available for free download — Just A Game. Get it here and hit up their Myspace if you are interested in hearing more!

New Music: Timbaland – “Ease Off The Liquor” Feat. SoShy

Timbaland – “Ease Off The Liquor” Feat. SoShy [Listen + Download]

A number of leaks have dropped from Timbo’s album which is set to drop Nov. 23rd, however, this has been my favorite so far.

Timbaland likes to flip the ends/latter halves of his songs, and this song is no exception to that. However, the song takes on a flamenco feel which I LOVE towards the end. Definitely has more of a world music vibe, as opposed to his usual morph of hip-hop beats mixed with pop beats mixed with old Timbo, etc…

He’s real keen on this new French artist of his, SoShy, but she’s ringing in as Nelly Furtado lite to me. We will see though.

      This joint go though!

Music Video: Ne-Yo – “Never Knew I Needed”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 29, 09

This is the video for the Ne-Yo contributed song and single to the Disney The Princess and The Frog soundtrack.

This song is very boring outside of the context of the movie and soundtrack, but I’m sure IN context it fits just fine. Ne-Yo is getting that Disney money and I’m not mad, but I think maybe someone else should have sung this song. Actually, I tend to think that about a lot of Ne-Yo songs LOL.

The Princess and The Frog comes out December 11th and features Disney’s first black princess. Are you going to watch, either by yourself or with your kids? LOL. Don’t be ashamed.

      Trailer: 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct”…Movie.

Written by The IPS in Movies on Oct 28, 09

The trailer for 50’s much delayed directorial debut Before I Self Destruct came out today…coincidentally, his album also leaked today.

      Hmm.

A coming of age story about an inner-city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother. (Source)

This movie was supposedly going to be included with his latest album of the same title after a theatrical release was forgone. I’m personally not hyped about either, but early Twitter buzz seems to be about evenly split for 50’s latest.

Him being a shrewd business man, I wouldn’t put it past him though as this all being part of some marketing ploy….

Music Video: Adriana Evans – “7 Days”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 28, 09

Well, Adriana Evans is one of those 90’s artists who had a couple of under the radar one-hit wonders but had a great voice and whatnot. Her favorite song of mine is “Love Is All Around”.

This is decidedly different from that song LOL.

She’s releasing a new album (which is actually a re-release of her 2nd album) called Nomadic on November 10th, and this is the first single.

The video is a bit disjointed and everywhere, much like the song, but Adriana looks and sounds good on this song. I’m wondering though, were the vocals re-recorded, and is this an old video…what? I’m guessing it’s all just being pushed again. Hmm.

You can get the song here if you want it and be sure to leave your thoughts.

      Where Is Missy’s Album?!

Missy Elliott – “Put It On Ya” Feat. Teyana Taylor (Prod. by Neptunes) [Listen + Download]

Man, Missy can make ya dance. And when she ain’t hollering and whatnot, she still goes hard!

I will be a Missy fan forever. This song is sort of missing SOMETHING, can’t put my finger on it, but if they played this in the club it’d get your attention, though you can’t exactly DANCE to it if you aren’t doing something choreographed LOL. Teyana Taylor makes an appearance, but it’s really hard to differentiate the two if you ask me.

Of course, don’t forget Missy speaking in Pig Latin. I haven’t heard THAT since MIDDLE SCHOOL. Sweet Minty Jesus she so random LOL.

I still bump “Best, Best” that song that leaked that she did with Danja…

Album Review: Fashawn’s “Boy Meets World”

      Fashawn – Boy Meets World
      2.5 stars out of 5

Ok, stop tryin to convince people of how hard yall go in the Frez (Fresno, CA). I only lived there for less than a year, but I can tell you that the biggest crimes in Fresno are not crack hustlin’ and attempted murder.  It’s meth labs and illegal immigration, perhaps cow tipping in a non-cow tipping zone.  Nah, haha.

More after the jump and listen to the whole album streaming as well…
