    • Video: Mary J. Blige – “Stay Down”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Apr 17, 08

Ummm, Miss Mary Mack, what’s REALLY going on!? Why is she always flying over something outdoors? Mountains, cliffs, oceans, and now the…Antarctic?

WAIT, something in the MAC makeup ain’t clean!

ROFL @ Mary J. Blige green-screening it up for this joint. We know she’s on tour and all, but putting Mary in Aunt Sasha’s good Polar Bear Fur and shooting some glaciers and ish “behind her” is NOT going to pass for a video! Besides, we know that Black people ain’t gonna be trudging over no plateau of ice and snow for no 5 minute video. Is she promoting stopping global warming? LOL “LOOK MY MUSIC IS SO HOT IT MELTS ICE CAPS SON! COP THAT DISC!” MARY GETS A MAJOR SEOD FOR THIS ONE.

How you go from a hot video (“Just Fine”) to something that you phoned in from a tour bus stop in Hollywood, CA? And why “Stay Down” as the next single?! Was there ever a video for “Work That” (which is probably one of the hottest songs I’ve ever heard in a while thanks to that beat)?! Just UGH at this whole befuddling mess.

Mary lost points for this one…not a good way to follow up IMO.

yeah, she should of definitely released work that instead of this hot mess
not that it’s a bad song, but it doesn’t have single potential and the video SUCKS ASS

      2. April 17, 2008 scoop

This is one of my favorite songs on the album. Mostly because my husband and I were going through some serious drama and I found the strength to humble myself and we fought through it. Thing is, with Mary, I didn’t appreciate her until she became this new person. I stan for Queen Mary the woman and the artist. Its cheesy I know, but I am telling you, when you go through thangs, its comforting to know you aren’t the only one and you aren’t the first. Anywho, the video sucks, but the sentiment isn’t in the video…and the song still touches me.

*sighs* Mary, MJB, Queen, i love you and all but hus song is not the business (thanks MissOMy for starting me on that phrase) whers Work That? hmm. Come To Me could have been decent. no? ok how ’bout Hurt Again.

…no wait. actually listened to the song and its nice but not single mateial

      5. April 17, 2008 Pirouette

        Well…she looks good.

      6. April 17, 2008 [MJ]

You mean to tell me that all that time between December and now, she releases this garbage? Just Fine was okay and the video for it sucked, Work That should have been the 2nd single, Shakedown as the 3rd single (with Usher on that song, I’m sure people would eat it up), and Till The Morning was good, and a contender for the 4th single. Do better next time Mary. A lot better.

      7. April 17, 2008 lindz

i agree-snooze fest!! “Work that” is a hott song and should have been a single! Don’t know bout this cd Mary! Why is everyone disappointing me this year-Mary, Ashanti, Mariah, Usher!?!

      8. April 17, 2008 twizzle

She better stop temptin’ fate and slow her roll with them goddamn fur coats . . . I’m not a fanatic or anything, but she’s askin’ for trouble at this point. I KEEP seeing her ass in fur . . . Hell, she’s even singin’ about them in “Grown Woman.”

I will be playing this video whenever I’m having trouble sleeping . . . I give her props for rockin’ her own hair for a portion of the video. There’s a lot more there than I expected. All hairlines are suspect at this point.

This was a HORRIBLE choice for a second single, and the video is NOT the bidness. Between this and that hot mess of a song that she and Jay-Z dropped recently, I just don’t know what to say about her . . . she really needed a BANGER after “Just Fine.”

This reminds me too much of the “Be Happy” video. It’s spring, I don’t need to see the cold weather right now!

        @ Z’maji,

maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, she could have filled up the tanks on both my cars for the next 5 years with all the money they wasted on this!! smdh :-/

I LOVE MJB, and up until her latest release, I’ve owned all of her records, but ‘Growing Pains’ is really nothing but pain. Sure, ‘Just Fine’ is ma ish, and ‘Work That’ was GROSSLY underrrated, but as far as the album in its entirety? BORING. MJB needs a new gimmick too. She jumps from depression to liberation back to depression too often, and that’s been her schtick for 15 years now. I know the problem though, she’s gotten too commercial.Come with something new dear, please. This song is such a dissappointment. I have greater hopes for her future realeases.

      14. April 21, 2008 Shoulda

I luv this song. the vid…no. Sorry Mary
