    • New Music: Danity Kane – “Make Me Sick” // “Welcome to the Dollhouse” Review

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Mar 20, 08

      Danity Kane album cover

      OVERALL RATING: B-

Danity Kane – “Make Me Sick”

Danity Kane’s album is out now and while I was EAGERLY awaiting this joint, I feel a little let down. Watching them MAKE the record was drastically more entertaining then actually listening to it. I feel cheated!

“Make Me Sick” is a Target bonus track (I mean, who buys CD’s at Target? Really?) and was produced by Rockwilder. THAT’S a name I haven’t heard in a while.

I feel like everyone is screaming at me on this song and it’s all over the place…I’m not really feeling this one. It is just a cacaphonus mess to me. Maybe if the vocals were a little more even and spaced out better….I wouldn’t feel like a wall of Danity Kane screeching was hitting me all.at.once. LOL @ Aundrea cussing — “I’m sick of yo sh!t!” OK, random.

People have asked what I thought of the album — overall, after a couple of listens, it’s fine I guess. But it just doesn’t “feel” as good as their first album I think “Welcome…” suffers from overproduction, some terrible lyric choices, and a lot of Lazyhandz Danjahandz. HALF of it feels like leftover Blackout (Britney Spears) which is no fault of theirs — Danja just uses a lot of the same sounds, rhythms and effects. The vocals seem uneven at times. Overall, I see what kind of feel they were going for, but sometimes they get swallowed up in the music and their personality doesn’t shine through. It’s definitely for the most part a dance record with some R&B & pop overtones rather than vice-versa that.

I loved their first album so much, and could pretty much listen to it straight through. This album, not so much. “Bad Girl” really sounds like a Janelle Monae song (did she write that or something?! SRSLY!). And the song with Rick Ross makes me want to sacrifice my stereo to the Garbage Can Gods, seriously, I hate that song. DO.NOT.WANT.

I’m not gonna lie, I like it. Not as much as the first one…and I’ll be the first to admit that they may be a victim of the infamous sophomore slump — but they’ll still sell records cause Diddy had the good damn sense to make us watch the show, love them and feel obligated to buy that album.

IPS, I’m with you on that Rick Ross song… they can take that mess back quickly.

Now if he’d just pay that much attention to Cheri Dennis, we might be cooking with some grease ’cause girlfriend’s album is HOT!

      2. March 20, 2008 The IPS

Now see, I didn’t like that Cheri Dennis record, God bless her lil two-steppin’, haircut from 2004 having self.

May she go with Sweet Minty Jesus to her eternal rest in the Discount Bins across America!

      3. March 20, 2008 (MJ)

The album is pretty good. “Striptease”, “Poetry”, and “Lights Out” are the best tracks on that album.

Finally! I was wondering if I was crazy for not being in love with the album since I loved the first. That Rick Ross song was straight trash! As I was listening to his verse I felt like slamming my head against the wall and I also didn’t understand how his verse coincided with the song. There was absolutely no relation. BTW did they us a trick out of T-Pain’s playbook and use synthesizers? I could barely understand what they were saying in the songs and the damn sleeve had no lyrics.

I was listening to it as I washed my dishes and I found myself not dazing off and watching my neighbor and wondering what he was making for dinner through the window. At first listen all I liked was Damaged, but by the 2nd and 3rd listen I began to enjoy Pretty Boy, Striptease, Sucka for Love, and Lights Out.

      5. March 20, 2008 Jess

i have to admit that i did

      6. March 20, 2008 Jess

i have to admit that i did buy this at target lol… it was only $10 so i figured why not? but i will have to agree, they koulda kept that track with rick ross… his 2 lines in the beginning was unecessary to me lol…
but id say my fave songs on this album are 2 of you, damaged, sucka for love, and i kinda like pretty boy but sometimes the beat makes me kinda schitzo lol and lights out is ok
but umm idk what was going on with that song with mtb4 as the bonus track i dont think i care for it too much

      7. March 20, 2008 Sumaya

I thought I was the only one who felt their vocals are ALL OVER THE PLACE.It’s an ok album, but gosh it’s just all over.I need a laid-back kind of record.I guess a 21 with an old soul isn’t too impress!

      8. March 20, 2008 Lindsey

Well I guess I’m in the minority, cuz I pretty much liked the whole album, except for Sucka For Love (yawn) and Pretty Boy (that beat?! nerrr baby). I actually liked Extasy, but Rick Ross is just a hot steaming plate of “hell no” with a glass of “who invited this fool?” on the side.

I totally agree with what you said about the uneven vocals, every song is pretty much Dawn & Aundrea featuring the other 3. I enjoy them and all, but gahlee let Wanita (I refuse to call her D. Woods, with that racoon on her head lookin like Daniel Boone, nerrr) get a lil somethin. Make me sick is a perfect example of that. I think it’s alright, but all I hear is Dawn doing adlibs and Aundrea yelling. She’s on her way to be a mini X-tina. But 3 snaps for less Aubrey this time around! She forever has the green light.

Overall I don’t think it was as good as the last one. That one was damn near perfect, except for Press Pause. More like press stop, but I digress. Lets blame Diddy, that solves all my problems.

      9. March 21, 2008 Lindsey

Oh and a mess at “I’m allergic to your face”. This ain’t kindergarden DK, come harder or get ready to join Cheri Dennis, ironing Diddy’s suits and watching General Hospital.
