Clifford the Big Yellow Jailbird is available to talk to your tykes and (soon to be) delinquents for the low, low price of Free.99! Get your spot reserved today — The T.I. “Don’t Become A Rapper” Tour is about to hit schools and playgrounds near you!
As a condition of his plea agreement with prosecutors on three federal weapons charges, T.I. will be required to complete a staggering 1500 hours of community service. In order to fulfill his part of the bargain, under which he will serve only one year in prison, the rapper has agreed to travel the country and speak with youth groups about the perils of gangs, guns and drugs. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, within 24 hours of the announcement of Tip’s plea, requests from various groups had already started to pour in. The Rev. Daniel L. Edwards III, president of Georgia’s Henry County chapter of the NAACP is one of many community leaders who says he will ask the rapper to come and speak with his young people. “We want to come up with a way to use his celebrity status and use him as a spokesman to reach the masses,” Edwards told the AJC. “They need to hear: Gangs are not cool, jails are not cool, guns and violence are not cool.” The Grand Hustle CEO is also required to promote respect for law enforcement under the terms of his plea. Court records show that actress Journee Smollett has asked T.I. to speak to kids as part of her “Catch Me Before I Fall” initiative,” and the rapper has also agreed to do public service announcements for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s “It’s Cool To Be Smart” program. “The idea really is he can get through to kids and fans like nobody else can,” said Steve Sadow, one of T.I.’s attorneys. “Why not take advantage of what may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?” (Source)
So is this a case of do as I as say, and not as I do!? Is he changing his “tune” so to speak musically as well?!
These poor children are gonna be so confused. T.I., or is it T.I.P. or is it Clifford, stands before them telling them drugs, guns and etc are all BAD. But then, he puts out a new single which talks about being a d-boy, how he’ll hurt a nigga, blah blah blah, turns it into a ringtone, and said children will all be jamming it on the school bus.
Right. OK, I think we should have made him pick up the trash along I-75, y/n?
While I commend them for trying to make him use his celebrity status to push a positive message, if he’s not living that positive message, it will fall on deaf ears. If there is no change in the behaviors that lead him to become a celebrity in the first place, i.e. his music, then there is NO point. It’s just all promotion for whatever project he is pushing and capitalizing upon a very unfortunate and negative situation and turning into a FALSEÂ positive. T.I. wins, while we STILL fail, in more ways than one.
Let’s not forget dude had guns! Some folks are saying that dude snitched anyway to get a “get out of jail relatively scott free” card, so he might not want to visit schools and ish around the place where he got caught…

I’m glad TI is trying to do something positive even if it is to avoid hard time. The true test will be after that negro gets out of the pen. We’ll see if he put his thuggish ways to the side.
