    • Mos Def’s Acting > Beyonce’ But Still…

Written by divaTy in Blogs,Movies on Mar 31, 08

      Stuff white people like

I need to consult my Magic 8-Ball on this one! “Will Mos Def ever get that Will Smith money?” *8-Ball explodes*

Rapper/actor Mos Def will play legendary rock’n'roller Chuck Berry in “Cadillac Records,” which is filming in New Jersey. Beyonce is starring as Etta James in the film, which chronicles the rise of legendary label Chess Records.

“Cadillac Records” also featured such characters as Chess co-founder Leonard Chess (Adrien Brody) and the label’s artists, including Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright), Little Walter (Columbus Short), Howlin’ Wolf (Eamonn Walker) and Willie Dixon (Cedric the Entertainer). (Source)

LOL, well, I’m going to guess…probably NOT.

Dude doesn’t even really resemble Chuck Berry. That’s like…casting Akon to play Lionel Richie in the “Commodores: Bringing Out The Funk!” tv movie (and yes, I just made that up, there is no Commodores movie). I think someone told me Mos plays instruments though, so he must have done something right.

I guess, I’m still befuddled as to why they are still casting parts for a film that is already FILIMING. I’m ignorant about those things, but it seems off. Beyahweh and King Mathew need to get it together over at Castle Creole’ because….something in the script ain’t clean.

But then again they casted Bee as Etta James…and I’m not sure how that is going to turn out. What, Nicole Ari Parker wasn’t available? Beyonce’ will need to gargle with Pepsi for 6 months and sit around Jay’s weed smoke for at least the same length of time to get that Etta sound. Beyonce’ will never beat Angel Lola Luv though in the “Race for the Oscar.” At least Angel isn’t essentially playing herself in her movies!

At least Mos Def plays different characters unlike Beyonce. I’ve actually liked him in some of his movies…then again i might just be biased. It should be an interesting movie…probably wait till it’s out on DVD

i think this film is turning into one long list of cameo appearances

I agree with 1 and 2.Whoever got their name on this movie just made me go “boo.” The best biopics I seen where What’s Love Got To Do With It, The Temptations, The Fiveheartbeats (even though I think someone told me that was a movie about the Dells) and Jackson 5 movie.I can’t wait til the Beyonce’ biopic come out…that will be the day!Anyways.I think I’m going to skip Cadillac Records..

        “That bitch is coo-koo!”

        *dies*

Mos, Jeffrey Wright, and Adrien Brody have me at hello–for the most part. Unless Beyonce COMPLETELY drops the ball, I see this as being at least worthy of a matinee ticket. I’m interested in seeing the story told on the silver screen. Hopefully, a Negro might actually LEARN something—-acting abilities aside.

I think we’ve been jumping the gun in terms of Beyonce’s participation. I’d be willing to bet Mos, Jeffrey, and Adrian get the bulk of the screen time. Let us all pray . . .

Now I agree Jefferey Wright is cool.He did his think in Lackawanna Blues. He chooses his roles wisely.

i’m usually with u on these IPS, but i think Mos Def is a great choice. loved him in that movie with bruce willis. 16 blocks, is it? in any case, let’s just thank Sweet Minty that they didn’t cast some random idiot like young berg or somethin…
