Classic Flashback: Faith Evans – “I Love You”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews, Videos on Nov 26, 08

Shout to my boy Steph Jones in the video LOL!

I think this is the last Faith Evans song I really loved. At the time, this was me and my current boo’s song. She loved it and wanted to listen to it all the time! I got sick of it (and her) eventually but hey, that’s another story.

I ended up meeting Faith later on that year and getting to chop it up with her and she signed a single cover for me, I got to find that somewhere…

Anyway, go Faith. She’s on Slim’s new record on the track “So Gone” but she wasn’t moving me too much…argh. WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD SINGERS GONE!? They might try that song as a single, watch…

Beyonce’ Needs More People + Shanice Has Her Number

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 26, 08

      Beyonce/Sasha

So, sales for “I Am…Sasha Fierce” are in and of course, people are praising Beyahweh (may her mane reign forever!). Sales are projected almost be gold out the gate, coming in at 482,000 copies to land her at the top of the charts.

But I just wanted to point out that really, those sales are pretty anemic if you think about it. The RIAA/Soundscan counts double-cd sets TWICE when calculating these figures. Really, she only sold HALF that, for a grand total of 241,000 copies.

Pair that with the fact that “B’Day” started with 541,000 copies, and “Dangerously In Love” opened with 317,000 copies, Sasha Fierce ain’t looking too fierce no more, even with the monster singles, numerous TV appearances and copycat stans all over the net.

I’m happy for her success, but I just think that the “one cd = two sales” is cheating, and I am sure they knew this so that in this time of a depressed economy and waning CD sales, Beyonce’ would still be the “Queen”. Mariah Carey’s barely gone double platinum, can Beyonce’ do it?

I’m wrong — the RIAA counts them twice, but Soundscan doesn’t, so she actually did sell that money. Someone pointed it out to me!

Lastly, Shanice does a cover of “If I Were A Boy”. Shanice got pipes, we know this. I’ve been thinking about people who I want to hear do a cover of this song, and I decided upon Pink. You KNOW that would be hot!

Common – “Punch Drunk Love” Feat. Kanye West

The Neptunes produced this and I am loving the wordplay Com!

When is this stupid album coming out already, I can’t keep track of everyone’s changing release dates. I have a social life. Is there a Google App for this or something?

Expect slow updates…I’m bout to crank that vacation! However, I will be doing a podcast more than likely before Friday…so stay tuned!

      Video Review: Ne-Yo – “Mad”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 25, 08

This video was pretty obvious to me in regards to how it was going to end, but I still thought it was a good treatment, if not a little played out.

I got to give it up to Ne-Yo, he put together a decent album lyrically and sonically and if it wasn’t for his voice, I’d probably listen to it more. “Mad” is not one of my favorite songs personally, but it’s a heartfelt mid-tempo which I am sure many couples can relate too, and that’s the hallmarks of a well-written song.

He didn’t have to get all Haley Joel Osment on us though!

Oh, and big ups for his AMA performance, that was so hot. Best performance of the night, he killed that mess! Gotta give props where props are due!

      “ROBOT VOICE! ROBOT VOICE!”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 24, 08

This is pretty much an inside college joke (shout out to my Trojans, fight on!), but yeah, the original Blizzard Man clip with Luda was fire and the one they did this past weekend was equally funny.

I’ve always watched SNL thanks to an old roomie, and that Justin Timberlake episode. Plus the performances of course. SNL can be VERY hit or miss some weeks, but when it’s on, it’s generally on.

Blizzard Man is the hot new rapper being shoved down everyone’s throats. Eventually people give in…oh America. How many of us hate “I Am…Sasha Fierce” but in 4 months will be hailing it as a classic? Exactly.

      Enjoy!

Oh, and GOSH, T-Pain…wow. Bless his heart.

New Music: R. Kelly – “If I Were A Boy” (Remix)

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Nov 24, 08

      R. Kelly

      R. Kelly – “If I Were A Boy” (Remix)

Oh, I guess R. Kelly decided to come up from air out of the McDonald’s ball pit to actually do some music.

As much as I hate Kells, I like what he did with this melodically. He flipped that in a hot way and as they say on American Idol, “made it his own” LOL. Watch Beyonce’ steal that ascending idea that he used in the hook.

I am gonna hate myself for saying this, but wouldn’t it be hot if Kells did a mixtape? Did his own spin on stuff that’s out right now? I think I’d like that overall…

I don’t know, how ya’ll feel about this? Or am I going to hell for even posting an R. Kelly anything? Props to Lowkey

Video Review: Traffik – “Hercules” (Remix) Feat. Pitbull, Jadakiss & Guerilla Zoe

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 24, 08

Did he say “I don’t fall in love / man, I do the cupid shuffle”?? Bwahaha, ok, nope.

Pitbull and Jada took over this joint…Gorilla Zoe just sounds extra. When he “grr’ed” at me, I just fell out laughing.

Is there a dance for this song!? There has to be a dance! *runs to youtube* *blank stare* *epic fail*

I don’t know who Traffik is, why he spells his name like that, or why he looks like he should be rapping with JoJo Simmons & Team Blackout, but I am mad that the DJ from 106 & Park has a record label. Ay dios!

That’s all this song is good for though, a corresponding dance to do in the club. Otherwise, no one cares. I don’t think this is gonna catch on too heavy…

Video Reviews: Keri Hilson – “Turnin’ Me On” Feat. Lil’ Wayne

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 24, 08

OK, so did anyone else starting singing DC-3’s “Soldier” during this? It just popped in my head and it fit perfectly LOL. All the video needed was to be black and white, and we would have had a winner!

Oh oh oh and the pre-hook kind of kills me softly. That “ahh, ahhh, ahh, ahhh” just doesn’t sit quite right with me…not sure why?

Overall though, Keri Hilson is beautiful, yadda yadda I’ve said that before, but I am still shocked at the caliber of the material she is putting out as a solo artist. This song is instantly more catchy than “Energy” — had this been the first song, she might have gotten people’s attention faster. Yet and still, this song is so paint-by-numbers for an artist who seemed to have so much talent and creativity. I think I just expected more, which they tried with “Energy” and it didn’t work.

Then, insert Weezy and a Polow Da Mongoose Don track and BAM! Throw in some twang, change her voice (nice…did ya’ll notice that….versatility?), do some hood poses and you got a video.

Love Keri but not really feeling this — I want to hear that album…

Video Reviews: Slim – “Good Lovin’” Feat. Ryan Leslie & Fabolous

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 24, 08

I know I am late, sorry! LOL, I don’t know if anyone else notices this but me, but does anyone else hear that random cowbell? ROFL, I just laugh so hard when it comes in and out.

This is your typical standard R&B video fare. Ryan Leslie really doesn’t HAVE to be here despite the fact that he just wanted the free kraft services and to show his Harvard-educated mug in this joint. I’m not sure how I feel about him singing the hook on another R&B singer’s song. I mean, the song already sounds like Slim just cut and pasted his vocals over a Ryan Leslie throwaway joint.

And I like Fabolous, ya’ll know this, but can he smile with his eyes? His voice is way more expressive than his actual facial movements are. I just feel like he looks blankly at the camera whatever video he is in.

Overall, an okay joint, but “So Fly” was much flyer and I am shocked that none of 112’s choreography stuck with Slim. He looked my uncle doing the stanky leg at last year’s Thanksgiving during his “dance” scenes. Wamp wamp!
