    • Video News: Michelle, Estelle, Usher & Lil’ Wayne

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews on Sep 30, 08

      Michelle Williams

      Michelle Williams – “The Greatest”

Michelle Williams just shot a video for her next single “The Greatest”. Hmmm…OK. “We Break The Dawn” was on top of the dance charts I think for a few hot seconds, but this as the next single? Either she should have released another  similar track and got her a #1 dance album, or just let it go LOL.

I love Michelle though. I’m glad that Beyonce’ releasing her singles has been pushed back though, so now Michelle won’t have to be INSTANT FAIL. LOL, come on, that’s like David fighting Goliath!

Estelle just shot a video for my FAVORITE SONG ON HER ALBUM, “Come Over” but it looks like she’s added Sean Paul to the mix and is doing the remix and not the original. That should be interesting — that joint is so dope though, one of the best on her album. Check it out here if you haven’t heard it. John Legend is still on the background vox though.

Usher’s video for “Trading Places” should be premiering this week on BET’s “Access Granted”. I hate now that they run the video all day afterwards on 106 & Park too. Whatever. It features a “woman taking control” but I’m sorry, the lyrics for that album are SO suspect LOL. I hated that song. I’m sure the woman will be hot and the house where he shot the video was CRAZY. Does anyone else think Usher should just scrap this album and start a new one since his mama’s back on board!? “Here I Stand” was a disaster.

Lastly, Lil’ Wayne’s next video is “Ms. Officer” featuring Bobby Valentino. I hope Bobby V. didn’t invest that check in stocks and bonds because who knows when the next time he will get one LOL. Kidding. I actually thought he sounded great on this hook though. I’m looking forward to seeing that video — hopefully it will have a cohesive storyline and Wayne won’t be all over the place with his syrup-induced ADHD.

She Can Have Whatever She Likes: Reagan Covers King Mag

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 30, 08

      Reagan Gomez-Preston

Uh oh, ya’ll know how I feel about Kang LOL. After getting a quick nod again at her fineness from T.I. in his “Whatever You Like” video, I guess that means she’s good enough to cover Kang. What else has she done lately!? I see she has dropped the “Preston”, hmm. Just Reagan Gomez now?

She looks great though, I like. I think that hair looks a little kitchen-a** but hey, she’s just STARTING to get her come up again LOL. Excuse me while I go watch “The Parent ‘Hood”. Where is TK and that cute little girl that was on there…what are they doing!?

Trailer: Katt Williams’ “It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’” DVD

Written by The IPS in Movies on Sep 30, 08

      I’ll be buying two copies!

This fool said go to the library and get the President book LOL. “White white white white white white white” and added a melody! LOL!!

I love Katt Williams, there’s not many people that just make me LAUGH straight out the gate. I believe he’s one of the disciples of Sweet Minty Jesus because I’ve been living by his “Haters” sermon! I got 12 more yesterday just to make sure I kept a fresh dozen in rotation, HOLLA!

What Do We Think? Natasha Bedingfield’s “Angel”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Sep 30, 08
      Artist Site

      More Videos

This is more pop-driven than I usually post, however, Natasha Bedingfield has this weird Brit-soul-pop thing going on and this song was produced by Rodney Jerkins. I just saw this video and as I was listening to the song (which a friend had actually sent to me before), but I realized, that it basically sounds like a Brandy song. I feel like Natasha is doing a cover of a Brandy song LOL.

Think about it — listen to the background vocals and her harmonies. LOL, too funny.

Otherwise, the song isn’t that bad, and the video is cool. Is anyone into her music? I couldn’t stand “Pocketful of Sunshine” though!

Video: Janelle Monae – “Many Moons”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 29, 08

I’m too sleepy still and I got a case of the Mondays so I can’t even wrap my head around the treatment for this vid. I just chalk it up to A) Janelle getting a Bad Boy-level video budget and B) continuing her “schtick” so to speak (not negatively). I think the video is cool though! Thematically, it matches her whole futuristic vibe that she reflects on the regular, and the visuals are cool.

Vocally, she does some interesting things. She will actually be in town on Wednesday, I am trying to get an interview and/or some tix…hmmmm.

Live Performance: Jennifer Hudson Does “Spotlight” On Jay Leno

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 29, 08

I can honestly say that this is the first performance of hers that didn’t rock my world. I’ve been hearing reports that her live show has been not so good in recent weeks, and that her best song live is still “And I Am Telling You”. NOT good when you have a single out and are promoting a new album chock full of new material. Hmmm…

This performance seems phoned in, by her and her band alike. And is that Ricky Minor on keys?! WOW, that would explain why Gospel singer Onitsha is doing background vocals — matter of fact, I think all of those are the American Idol backup singers (Ricky Minor is the musical director for AI ya’ll). You should not be turning in performances like this right before your album drops!
And does she only have one purple dress!? I’ve swear she’s worn that before, or one JUST like it.

Still love Jen though, but I got to keep it real…

      Trailer: Will Smith’s “Seven Pounds”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 29, 08

I love Will Smith, but I can poke the “overacting” and all that “raw emotion” from 3 months away with a long stick. LOL, I’m not sure if I want to spend my Christmas all sad like I was while watching “The Pursuit of Happyness”. Is he putting out anything in which he is blowing stuff up again? I know, shallow. I’m a man, what can I say. I like when Will makes things that have things that explode LOL.

In other depressing, sad movie news, did anyone go see “The Miracle At St. Anna” this weekend? My balling budget was restricted to gas & food expenditures, so I might have to catch Spike on the Netflix LOL.

      Video: Ludacris – “Undisputed”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 29, 08

      A) SMEDIUM!
      B) “The name on my insurance is YO’ f*ckin’ fault!” HAHAHAHA YES.
      C) That little kid? If I had kids, I’d tell them to BE HIS FRIEND ON THE PLAYGROUND.
      D) Floyd Mayweather looks like Sean Garrett who looks like a Muppet.
      E) In the first two minutes of the song, I think he talks about his balls a lot.
      F) LEAVE WHITNEY AND BOBBY ALONE! (Ain’t she supposed to be putting an album out?!)
      G) This is Luda that I haven’t heard in a while. He is on fire on this song — who pissed in his corn flakes!?
      H) He said “sugar” so properly that I had to rewind it and laugh!
      I) I’m just glad there were no obvious “Rocky”/running up stairs moments. Praise Sweet Minty Jesus for that.
      J) I know why Floyd Mayweather is on the track, but really, WHY IS FLOYD MAYWEATHER ON THE TRACK?

“Theater of the Mind” might be the first Luda album that I’ve liked in a minute…11/25/08! Though, “Paper Trail” is already hotter IMO.

Classic Flashback: Big Bub – “Need Your Love” Feat. Queen Latifah & Heavy D

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 29, 08

Does anyone remember Big Bub, the dude who sang lead for the group Today? LOL, man this song popped in my head this morning, with it’s sample and his Luther Vangross channeling, lawd. The FACES that Big Bub made were hilarious. Oh the 90’s. The Queen was looking good though — she really is aging well LOL.

I am probably the only one who has even heard of this song, but I REALLY am not that old ya’ll LOL. I just know a lot of old music! I promise. Anyway, enjoy the old school-ish of the day. I’m not expecting many comments on this one LOL.

John Legend “Evolver” Album Cover + New Song

Written by The IPS in Blogs, New Music & Reviews on Sep 26, 08

      John Legend's

      John Legend’s “Evolver” album cover

John Legend – “It’s Over” Feat. Kanye West

Ya’ll, Teddy Ruxpin strikes again. Admittedly, John Legend’s last album was a snoozefest. A decent one, but boy was it elevator muzak if I ever heard it. We knew it and he knew it LOL, hence him ramping it up this album. However, I AM LOVING this song. And “Green Light” has grown on me majorly, though I still think I would like it regardless of who was singing it. But I love this song all by itself. John’s album is gonna be a hot one. That Brandy duet was sounding hot too! I’m excited now about this. He’s going to succeed where Robin Thicke is failing (review of “Something Else” coming next week).Check out this album cover — I love it. It’s cool and yet not conceited, which I feel John can be at times. Make no mistakes though, if you got the goods to back it up (musically — pause!), then I don’t care. Loving this joint. What ya’ll think?
